10mm bolts

After having to drill & tap out a lot of rusted in bolts & need to get some new ones. Does any one know of somewhere to get replacements cheap?

Cheers

Are you sure they are 10mm. If so how long do you need them to be, and how many do you need? Are these bolts for an MX-5 or another car as I haven’t come across lots of 10mm bolts on the MX5 that needed removing?

We use a couple of companies at work for various fixings.

Google 'em. They should be able to help, just be careful with spec (stainless, BZP etc) as there are many options!

Assuming you mean the M6 flange bolts I use these stainless ones which are identical to the OEM ones (except they don’t rust and look pretty). Good discounts for bulk orders.

I think they are M6 thread. they take a 10mm socket to remove them. Same as ones used to bolt the wings on

OK why can’t I edit my own posts?

I was a bit confused at first Miles, thinking “These” - What, he’s not mentioned anything!?

I’ve sorted the post editing issue - was simply a box that was not checked…

Heres a chart that shows bolt head size in relation to thread size–

ISO metric thread M1.6   M2  M2.5   M3    M4    M5   M6    M8    M10 M12 M16

Spanner (mm) 3.2    4
   5   5.5      7    8   10    13     17  19  24

Not in a Mazda world I’m afraid Geoff

Take the seat bolts for instance, M10 with a 14mm socket size

M8 on a 5 is a 12mm socket also

Yep, don’t ya just Love Mazda…I wondered for ages why my 13mm spanner never got used. The table is a guide to the ISO standard sizes—

JIS specs don’t use 13mm AF bolts or nuts so all the Japanese manufacturers use 12 instead. When I bought my first ever UK built car last year I had to find a couple of 13mm spanners.

When specing fasteners be sure to measure the thread pitch too - some of them can be ISO fine pitch (brake caliper mounts on the MX5 I think, there may be others).

Also avoid stainless bolts for safety critical items as they tend to be weaker than standard 8.8 steel fasteners and also bare in mind that some of the OE bolts can be 12.9 and should only be replaced with that grade - lower spec bolts can shear if you tighten them up to the standard torque.

I’ve got a bunch of M6 bolts with 8mm flanged heads; thats all I ever seem to find at car shows etc.

For many sheared bolts (bottoms of wings, bumper stays, engine tray), I use a self tapper with a flanged 10mm head. Lifes too sort to be restoring threads for these bits.
