11 years since the ND Launch

I remember sitting in one when it was first on display at a show/rally, can’t remember which.
Anyways my remarks at the time were love the colour (Soul Red) don’t like the front of the car but love the rear style of it. Disliked it had body colour interior door tops and no glovebox.
I said nope I won’t be buying one, this year I did, same colour and loving it, it’s a 2015 1.5.
I still can’t get use to no glovebox though and those annoying removable cup holders.

Time sure flies. And personally, I never thought then that the car industry would be so pathetic 11 years on.

Same for me, at first I couldn’t take to the looks, especially the front view. The NC never floated my boat so stuck with my NB. Then over time I gradually warmed to the ND’s slightly quirky design and now think it’s great. Lack of a glove box was never an issue for me, but the cup holders seemed a bit pointless. It’s strange how our tastes can change over time. I now see the ND as a future classic.

Agree about the cup holders.

The good thing about the annoying cup holders is that they can be removed.

The annoying thing about removing the cup holders is the front fitting position without a cover.

Blatant promotional post coming up.

I have a solution.

I remember being shocked that it shared so little visually with the previous generations, but it didn’t take me long to get over it, and always thought it was great looking.

The only detail that really grated on me was the odd feature line on the upper haunch which runs awkwardly into the door. I still don’t understand why it’s there, but have grown to feel affection for it, like a crooked smile on someone you love. It makes the car a little more distinctive.

I remember the launch on YT seeing the silhouette under the dust sheet and seeing the sloping bonnet line arcing down towards the ground, a bit TVR’esque I thought it was a looker from the off.

I entered (and won) a competition on PH for Goodwood FoS tickets for the year that Mazda were the title sponsor. Got to try the cars around Goodwood circuit and a demo lap with Richard Meaden driving too. Went home and ordered one, still have it today.
