13th May 2026 - David's Mid-Week Run - Titchwell & West Acre Garden

Meet at Taverham Garden Centre (NR8 6HT) at 9.15am for 9.30am departure with just over a half hour’s run for a café (NR22 6DR) and breakfast (details below). Then a browse in the art gallery before heading to the RSPB’s Titchwell Nature Reserve (PE31 8BB). RSPB members free otherwise £7 pp.

The reserve has boardwalks and paths that give access to lakes, marshland and tidal zones. There are several bird hides (bring binoculars) including a large hide that can accommodate our group. The main path runs through the reserve to the beach - a place to appreciate a ‘big sky’.

May is in the Spring migration period so summer visitors will be arriving. Hopefully competition for nest sites and nesting partners will be underway which should make this a great time to visit. Refreshments are available although our earlier café stop should stand us in good stead and there will be tea and cake later.

Leaving Titchwell a 40 minutes run takes us to an old favourite for Wednesday ‘Fives’, namely West Acre Garden (PE32 2BW). On arrival about 3pm we’ll head for the Little Apple Cafe for tea and cakes then look around. The walled garden is free to walk around and plants are available to buy in the nursery. The plants are good quality being grown on site rather than imported. So put a plastic box in your boot ready for buying some plants.

Return route will take us about 40mins to the NDR (Broadland Northway / A1270) at which point we all make our separate ways home. However some will leave for home straight from the garden or leave us enroute, whatever safe journeys all.
