17" inch wheels on standard suspension

I am  shopping for a set of new wheels for the Mk3. But I have standard suspension layout which I want to keep for now, and original wheels are 16".

I know the wheel height of 16 to 17" may be the same but cannot visualize if the change in 17" wheels look better.

Has anyone here done that change from 16", if so any pics?

2.0 sport had 17" I believe

Excellent, many thanks for the link.
Still undecided on the style.

Looks a nice motor, thinking of trading in the mk1?

My car was born with 16" wheels:

Now with 17"

Drives even better…and no suspension changes

That’s a nice looking set up, thanks for the pics

I like these, what does the rest think?

honestly? no like…

Too funky for the mx5?

it my personal opinion but don’t like the curved spokes or the gloss black on its own, matt black or gloss with different rims works for me…  things need to look functional… this I like… and a lot of the other Rotas as well.

I will try to visualize these on a black car, failing that, the others may be right for me. Thanks for your input on this.

Not sure what the wheels were, it was a few years ago, but one of the most stunning MK3s I ever saw was black, with black straight multispoke alloys with silver rims… that was a great look…

something like…

Funny that, these were the first set that I liked and then moved onto something that had the same theme as the standard with a twist of individualism. I do like the 6 spoke wheels though.

Just read that on MX5life forum, nice, I thought of breaking up the black but now would like gloss black to stealth the motor a bit. Plenty of bling inside the car

Rota GT3’s is the nearest I found

i think the gt3 has too much silver on the rim.

Team Dynamics pro race 1,2 with polished rims are great, but can’t find on their website now!

wrong size, wrong car, but you get the idea.

or

Go with the wheels you like, not what other people tell you.

However, unless the wheels you like come in a 5 x 114.3 fitting, they are not going to fit your car.

The wheels in question were Rota Revs

17 x 5 x 114.3

I don’t own the car any longer ~ I sold the wheels separately to someone who hoped they fit his Honda civic…
