17 inch wheels

I’ve just fitted 17" wolfrace wheels to my 5, the car still needs to be lowered to get the look i’m after but i have noticed the car seems very unsteady on the road now, it was wet when i took it out but even in a straight line i could get it spinning up with ease, the tyres look good. ie plenty of tread, any idea why this has happened? the tracking is out a little which mite be y it feels a bit unsteady but doesnt explain y the wheels light up so easy, tyres are 205/40/17

Could be:

New tyres, with mould release compound still to be scrubbed away.

Most tyres at this size are actually quite poor on a light car like the MX5; I had a Mk1 on 205/40 17 Avons, which were shocking unless the roads were very dry.

The tyres are the incorrect load index (too hard) for the MX5.

the tyres are used, i was actually thinking they may be old and not vey supple, i assume thats how rubber goes when its old. i’ll check the load index and see what there like, failing that i’ll maybe swap the tyres for some others, is it the width thats likely to be the problem?

I fitted exactly the same size wheels and tyres and even with a turbo and in the wet I do not get wheelspin or lose the back end as I did with the originals. The tyres are Yokohama which were a bit pricey at more than £100 each but worth it. Mine is a Mk2.5 so perhaps some different geometry on the Mk1 needs setting-up.
