1961 Jaguar Factory Tour

Film is very proper and those workers it would seem know their place so very 1960’s.

Interesting. And I didn’t see a single job that I could identify that wouldn’t be done

nowadays by robots, or computer controlled machinery. Although, I always thought that production

line work defined the term… turn yourself into a robot in exchange for pay.  No sign of the women,

who I guess would have been the ones who made the upholstery.

The urban fuel consumption test cycle…

( You just can’t beat the sound of a good straight six when it’s really at work )

Very interesting video.

How easily they put in the windscreen knowing what a pain (never again!) window rubbers can be was fascinating.

I couldn’t help but think as I watched whether there are many manufacturers left who would have such a special attention to detail at each step.

Also couldn’t help noticing how after they get the car ready for the test drive, have the mechanics use cloths for seats and paintwork to avoid dirt and scratches just how dirty the testers white clothes were and they got to sit on the actual leather.

Just a shame they spoil it at the end by not tossing the e-type keys over and saying to the presenter - you’re driving

Do you mean in the video? Because they were doing the interior wiring as all 60’s men apparently had chubby fingers. You’re right though about there being some in the upholstery section when they were being described as craftsmen. Did notice the vacuuming was left to the women though.
