1992 MX-5 SE - Considering Selling

I hope this is in the right section. It is regarding selling although i’m initially after advice.

This is a post I thought i’d never write, but I am seriously considering selling my VERY MUCH loved 1992 Mk1 SE. I’ve owned the car for 16 years and I can honestly say it’s like considering selling a family member!!
I’ll not lie and admit that it’s not in the best condition nowadays. The car has succumbed to the dreaded rot which is now at a point where it is beyond me to sort and don’t have the funds to pay someone else. I am still considering keeping the car garaged up until such time that I may be in a position to get the car back on the road, but also really have the realisation that it’ll most likely never happen and it seems such a shame for it to just sit in a garage and rot away.

The car was very well known in the club a good few years ago (pre-kids) where it regularly took part in the rally competitions and did win a couple of trophies (including a couple of 1st places).

The rear arches and sills need replacing along with the offside front wing.
The engine has covered just over 181,000 miles, but still works a treat and (literally) starts on the button every time.
It’s been my daily for 16 years and it’s never broken down on me.

There are a couple of other minor issues that need sorting and these I already have the parts for (offside electric window cable and new indicator stalks).
There are a lot of very good parts on the car including a few upgrades. The roof is in very good condition.

I can list all the existing standard options and all the extra parts i’ve added to the car over the years.

What i’m trying to gauge I suppose is what is it actually worth and whether there’s any interest?
The car is still MOT’d till October so is still currently driveable.

If the work is done (done well), which sounds like to be £2000’s worth, the car might fetch £4k. As a random number as to what its worth now; £750-1000, because at least it can be driven. As soon as that MOT goes, you will struggle to sell it.

ie. if you did find the money to do the work, I doubt you will be out of pocket if you then sold it.

This also presumes the leather is still good, and not cracked/worn through.

It is a cracking car…
