I am trying to find out if the above MX5 had the wood trim as per the Classic Red version or was it just a black interior as per the standard dash and centre console, apart from the blue door trim and seats?

Brochure available HERE
Just checked my copy of the brochure
Black Leather seat facings and door panels
Wood trim
I thanks for the help, but have already checked the Bourne site.
In the brochure it only gives the details on the Classic Red and not the Twilight Blue version.
I’m sure there is someone in the club that has one, just can’t remember who.
Can’t find them via the search menu either.
I’ve got a red Sport, but I dont think the blue had the wood trim. I will try and find out for you.
Cheers Nick, I have a Red Sport also.
and now the Twilight.
On special editions, the only variation was the colour. The trim levels and extras was the same for all models in the range.
The following is the specification for the 1999 Sport.
Mazda MX-5 Sport
The Sport is based on a standard 1.8iS model and only 600 units were made between December 1998 and December 1999 … 300 in Classic Red and 300 in Racing Blue
This high spec MX-5 would cost you £22,535.00 when purchased new
The exterior boasted a full body kit which included front spoiler, side skirts and a boot spoiler. Further enhancements included front fog lamps, colour coded rear mudflaps, 15" alloy wheels and a free detachable hard top
The interior was trimmed with black leather seats and door trims with a Nardi leather steering wheel. The centre console featured ‘wood effect’ trims complimented with a wooden hand-brake grip and gear knob
Standard vehicle specification also included sports suspension, ABS, driver and passenger airbags, central locking, power windows, electric mirrors and aerial, stainless steel scuff plates, air conditioning, CD player and a heated rear screen
Sounds right, plus I checked with another Red Sport owner and the Blue did come with wood kit.
Looks like I have one with no wood kit on it, but everything else.
Possibly been taken off because it faded as a lot do, a new one in the right colour with vent rings etc will be hard to come by.
Sounds like yours has bee re-trimmed also as it should be Black Leather
Do you have the Leather Hood cover also (very rare!)
The Blue MK2 Sport came with blue and black seats, and I do not think it had a leather tonneau, that was the Jasper Conran I think.
Yes it does have the blue leather inserts on the seats and on the door cards.
But no wood trim at all, the sport did not have the stick on trim found on the likes of the Merlot which peel off eventually.
So it would have been a major undertaking to remove all the wood trim including the handbrake handle and gear knob with plain black plastic.
yes I think your correct about the cover. Inside looks a bit like a better version of a 10ae.
MX5 parts do a wood kit that is quite close to original
Having looked at the picture above the only thing that supports the fact things may have been changed is, I would have expected a Nardi knob if it was not wood
The wood trim on the Sport (red at least) was of the stuck on type and was added when the cars arrived in the UK. Eventually it loses its colour and the laminate comes away from the base.
A couple of years ago I managed to source a brand new and unopened wood kit from a Mazda dealer which I used to replace the original kit on my car. The handbrake and gear knob are another matter, they are moulded and crack and replacements are few and far between.
Cheers for the help all, who ever removed it has done a very clean job not a trace of glue or any residue.
On the hunt for wood now…

Here is a link to a similar car to yours that was for sale in Brighton at around £2700 I think before it sold .

10 months later and one lucky boy has managed to get hold of a genuine Mazda wood trim including the Door Speaker caps which I wont be fitting. Just wooden handbrake lever and Gear knob to find. Convinced that they must have run out of wood buy the time mine was produced.
