Hello to you all just a quick question I have a Mazda Eunos 1991 Import and have been having a problem with selecting gears I thought I had solved the problem with replacing the slave cilinder which was leaking its made a great improvment but some times its a problem to select 1st and 2nd gears. I find that if I double the clutch it helps but just when you think alls ok it will happen again its as if you put the clutch down and nobody’s at home.
I’ve had similar problems in the past but admittedly not with an MX5. In that instance the system was not fully bled, the little bit of air left made the clutch arm throw borderline, sometimes it worked and sometimes not. It was also worse on the lower gears for some reason.
I bled it over and over until eventually it was OK. A pressure bleeder worked better but on the MX5 you have the problem of the odd size cap on the master cylinder.
Was the slave cylinder from a reputable brand? If you still have the orginal one perhaps double check the rod is the same length on the replacement as on the original. If it was fractionally short it could cause the same thing.
Thank you for your reply I have re bled the system with a friend and he did spot a small amount of air in the system I will now monitor to see if it has cured the problem.
Thank you for your comments I have bled the cluch again and noticed a small amount of air in the system I am now trying the car to see if we have cured the problem. I have booked the car in for a gear box oil change and will check the condition of the rubbers
