- My model of MX-5 is: 2004 mx5 euphonic 1.8L vvt
- I’m based near: North Lincolnshire
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: exhaust parts
Hey, I’m new to the forum and MX5’s so I’m still very much learning!
Context is I took my mx5 for a service to be told that I don’t have a catalytic converter someone’s welded a pipe where it should be which is no biggie until next April when i have my MOT. I’m thinking of doing a complete exhaust over hall as I want to make the car sound nicer as well as let the car breath easier for a bit more power !! I’m planning on turbocharging the car eventually but not for at least a couple of years (due to money and insurance) so looking to do a new manifold and cat-back in the mean time however I’m unsure on what layouts this year of car has for example I’ve seen manifolds to like a long down pipe to a cat to mid pipe and then to a back box but I’ve also seen cats that connect straight into the bottom of the manifold as one long piece. I’m looking into purchasing a racing beat 4-1 header which by the images I’ve seen is one long piece and in the description states connects onto factory cat and a isr circuit spec cat back exhaust that also should connect to a stock cat and as i don’t actually have a cat at the moment I’m wondering which do I buy to pass emission’s as well as fit these two parts together as far as I’ve figured out if the cat back isr exhaust fits to the stock cat and the racing beat header also fits to the stock cat there shouldn’t be a problem but the images of the stock cat in the mk2.5 I’ve seen don’t support this idea as the exhaust might fit on the longer cat mentioned above but the manifold definitely wont!
so in conclusion I’m in need of insight for a somewhat factory cat to pass emissions and to preferably connect these two parts with minimal work thanks for all the help and apologies for any confusion more poor grammar might bring !!
Thank you for taking the time to read this post!
