2006 NC Rear Brake Pads

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __2006 NC Sport

Hi Guys - just received some rear brake pads for the NC.
There is an anti rattle spring on one of the pads only.

None of the pads on the car have this spring.
The Haynes manual does not show it or mention it.

  1. Should it be there ?
  2. Which side does it belong ?
  3. is it the inner or outer pad ?

I could be wrong here but that’s a squeal device whereby it’ll make a riot of a sound when pad material is low by rubbing on the disc.
I guess they expect you to replace all four together (which is logical cos they should all wear at the same rate)

That make sense - just odd that the current pads don’t have it.

If it is a squeal device - I would guess it belongs on the inside ( piston side ) of the caliper.

Yeah, he piston side always wears quicker (but I guess you knew that)

I think it needs to be fitted so that when the pad wears down and that “tang” touches the disc, the direction of the disc pushes the tang away from the pad not towards it.

Cheers Ian & Reggie - so based on that - it needs to be at the bottom of the installed pad - on the piston side of the caliper.

In that case - it can only go on the Nearside ( Passenger side ) of the car.
