So, I finally took delivery of my “new” MX5, a 2010 20th anniversary edition 1.8l in Aurora Blue. Chuffed to bits with it. Got it for a steal due to it being slightly above average mileage and the interior being a little tired but with the discounted price I can afford to do some upgrades and still have paid less than the market rate. I don’t think the seller really knew what he had. Runs and drives beautifully. Plenty of poke in it and goes round corners like it’s on rails. I was a little apprehensive switching from a Mk2 to a Mk3 as some said the drive wasn’t as good. If anything, I think it’s even better. Steering is a little heavier but I actually think that’s good. The Mk2 can be a little jittery at times.
The main cosmetic upgrades planned are to get the steering wheel retrimmed in leather and replace the cloth seats with custom leather. Depending on time and money, I may get at least one of those done ahead of the National rally. I’m also going to have the engine flushed by Terraclean which should help performance and general running. I’d like to put a sportier exhaust on it and had in mind a Cobalt system from Moss but not sure if they do one to fit the Mk3.5. Has anyone had one fitted to theirs? Looking on the website the pipe from the box seems to be a different position to the one on the car at the moment. I’ll have the car up on the ramps today and take a closer look. The car is yet to be properly cleaned and detailed which I’m planning to do today but here are a couple of ‘before’ photos.
