- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __rust prevention
Hi all,
My 2010 MX5 NC has some rust on the underside but nothing major and no visible rust on the paint of the rear wheel arches.
I would be appreciative if anyone can advise whether there is a suitable bung / drain hole that I can use to insert a Waxoyl spray probe into the inner wing area. Apparently the inner wing area is a part of the car known to suffer from rust.
Many thanks
Paul
Rear wheel arch?
Take out the arch liner and it reveals 2 rubber bungs shown in picture 1.
If I remember there are more rubber bungs further up and around the wheel arch.
Also, picture 2 the screw/bolt holding the lower part of the arch liner goes into a plastic bung behind. Remove that (it pops out) revealing another access point for cavity wax.
I’d be inspecting inside first for corrosion, piling in copious amounts of wax on top of rust won’t really stop it, it’ll just hide it and most likely make it worse.
If you open the boot and remove all the trim you can gain very good access to the wheel arch areas. You can be very liberal with your application as any excess will drain to the sill area.
Whatever you use make sure it is very ‘runny’. Waxoil is particularly ‘gloopy’ straight from the tin so use white spirit to thin it down.

Many thanks for your answer and I will be sure to look inside the areas you have highlighted.
I was also lead to believe that rust can form on the rear (inside) of the area shown in red on the attached and it only becomes apparent when the paint on the outside blisters. I’d like to get to the inside of the rear wing and apply some rust prevention to this area where possible so am trying to identify a bung hole or similar that allows me to get a Waxoyl probe in there

See my post above…

I just told you how to do this area in my earlier post!!!

Many thanks all, this has been very useful indeed
some say to remove the inned liner to the rear wheel arch, tis a carpet like material and then thoroughly clean the wheel arch, brush off any rust (esp along that inner edge which seems to collect mud and so help it rust), apply rust converter BEFORE you apply any gloopy underseal substance such as Dinitrol.
