You would imagine after 15 years I wouldn’t need to ask this…….
Going on a 27 hour ferry trip soon , Rosslare to Bilbao . I want to lock the car, but deactivate the motion detector so the alarm won’t activate, and I arrive in Bilbao with a flat battery.
Which of the following is correct?
- Lock in the normal way with fob (double click) and then immediately click the other button beside the boot lid switch
- Single click lock on fob
- Lock with the key ( not the fob).
Thanks all
DC
It’s Option 1.
Press the lock button on the remote twice to double-lock the doors, then within 10 seconds press and hold the small button on the bottom right of the remote which will disable the internal sensor.
The indicators should flash twice to confirm the alarm is disabled.
Enjoy the trip
Does the NC have a tilt sensor too? I remember jacking a car up (can’t remember if it was my MX-5 now) and it was locked and armed, as soon as I got it a few inches up the alarm sounded.
I’ve seen videos of cars on ferries, as soon as they hit the open waters the alarms go off🥴
Can’t be 100% sure about the tilt sensor Mick, but the procedure above should disable that as well, if one is fitted.
That’s great! And such a prompt response.
Thanks again

You can test it in advance as well David, by locking with the hood down.
Follow the above process and then wave your hands in the cabin area after a minute or so. The alarm shouldn’t go off.
I’ll try this.
Thanks again
I don’t know about the soft top, but with the PRHT the internal motion sensors are disabled when the roof is down, regardless of how the alarm has been armed.
I’ve tried this as promised.
Double click on lock switch (fob) gives one flash of indicators to confirm doors are double locked.
Holding the “motion alarm button” immediately afterwards gives 3 flashes to indicate motion detector is off. And (having left the top down) waggling my arms around inside the car doesn’t set off any alarm. Sounds good.
Having said that, waggling the arms inside the car in the same way, having just double locked the doors (using the fob) - without pressing the motion detector button, doesn’t set off the alarm either……
Maybe my alarm is dysfunctional?
I’d be grateful for advice as to how to test this
Thanks
David
Unless the motion alarm only works with hood up?
OK. Try some tests with the hood up,but windows down this time.
First lock normally, wait a minute for the system to arm, then try the arm waggling through the open window
Also try to use the unlock button on the inside of the door, to get the alarm to go off (test it actually functions). I tried this with interior monitoring disabled on the ND yesterday, and trying to unlock using the door lock switch set the alarm off…
Thank-you.
This has been successful.
Hood up, windows down, double click to lock, (1flash of indicators) and arms waggling inside car…… this set off the audible alarm……. although I would say that the area around the rear bulkhead cubbyhole, between the seats, seems to be the sensitive area.
Hood up, windows down, double clicked to lock (1 flash of indicators) followed by pressing motion sensor switch (3 flashes), and the arm waggle , even in the cubbyhole area, doesn’t result in the initiation of the audible alarm.
So, I now know,
- My alarm works ( hood up)
- I can switch off the motion sensor on the ferry with the resultant peace of mind I’m less likely to arrive in Bilbao with a flat battery, and yet the car will be secured in the boat.
Thanks again for the help with this, and hopefully it’ll help someone else.
Must stop waggling my arms about.
Cheers
