I’ve been keeping an eye on this car, it’s been for sale for a few months and I’m wondering if there might be something wrong with it or maybe it’s just priced too high? Does anyone know this car?
It’s a 2014 NC Sport Tech Recaro, which I understand is pretty rare so the price doesn’t seem to bad considering that nice Sport Techs go for 11-12k.
I don’t know the car nor dealer, they are too far away from me to have had any dealings with.
I do know about the NC Recaro model though as I used to own one.
First off it’s the seats that give it that special edition tag as you are probably aware, they never really gave it a special edition badge to stick on either.
So you’ve also probably deduced it’s just a Sport Tech with Recaro seats and it would be interesting to know why they consider this has a ‘Sports Pack’ I guess it’s the Recaro seats that give it that + feature, they don’t give anymore power or handling ability though.
Yep the seats keep you firmly in situ and are very comfortable, best seats I’ve had in a car and that’s where the value is in this model. When I was selling mine last year I had a couple of cheeky offers for the seats on their own, my answer was a definite go forth and @@@##!
A few of these models have been sold over the past 12-18 months with varying prices most up there around the £11-£13k mark, maybe £14k for a low mileage car.
Again it’s condition, condition and of course the dreaded rust/rot situation which it will have to some degree, do your checks as always.
My Recaro, I reckon I sold it too cheaply, it was a cracker and had been previously undersealed for protection. I also did a good deal of work to it as did the previous owner to bring it up to more or less show winning condition.
That particular Recaro you asked about, it’ll probably hang around until sold at that price, spring is here so folk will be getting the urge to buy it. Probably too rich a price for me to pay, it would have to be top notch if I did shell out on it.
That confirms what I thought, basically paying around 2k extra for the seats and the cosmetic changes (roof, mirrors and wheels).
I do really like the look with the black accents, but wonder if it would be worth paying more instead of getting a cheaper Sport Tech in the same condition/mileage.
How much did you sell yours for if you don’t mind me asking? From what I’ve seen, a Sport Tech in good condition and with sub 50k miles goes for around 10-12k, maybe a bit more for the special editions.
Dealer is a MX5 specialist so expect a premium. My local guy is sadly recently deceased but, although pricy he found unusual cars and I would have paid the extra. NC’s are rising in price and I don’t think it’s just because of spring. If it’s going to be a keeper the extra pain will soon be forgotten and you will have something that stands out. Recaro is a very well known name.
On the very “expensive” side in my opinion.
I just had to relook and paid £12995 for my 2013 Sport Tech Nav PRHT in March 2016 with 6000 miles.
It’s now just shy of 34000 miles.
Perhaps the market is now very strong for good ones and do the recaro seats add that much more to basically the Sport Tech.
You’re right, it’s very expensive. But it could be a steal. Dealers make their money by moving stuff, not what I would have made if I’d held onto that.
They take their cut and everyone gets upset by that rather than seeing the underlying value.
It still is a great car. In need of a clean though. I thought they only came in Black or White though? The seats are amazing although im not sure they’re designed for people much bigger than me?
At the end of the day, if you think it’s worth it, then that’s all that matters.
I’ve bought a lot of ‘Toys’ that people slated me for, due to the price I paid, but they were mine and I enjoyed every one!
