Just found this item from about a month ago… An early insight to the net model of our favourite roadster?

A total speculation piece, interesting nonetheless.

Agreed… With electric and hybrids now becoming the norm of motoring, it just fuels (Pardon the pun!) my interest in the next MX-5 variant… Not that I want to change mine anytime soon…!

This looks like someone trying to fill some space in a magazine when they don’t have any solid facts about the MX5 replacement.

I’d be surprised if anything appeared before 2025 based on previous MX5 updates.

I read that as “we don’t know anything so let’s just guess.”

It is my understanding that the Mazda 6 will die for good quite shortly as they just don’t sell and everyone wants SUV Cross Over cars.

Most of us on here could have written that tbh.
And the last Mazda 6 I drove was front wheel drive, as are most CX5’s, and are not, as alluded to, based on a rear wheel drive platform. Apologies for being pedantic.

Here, here 6 GT sport nav tourer, I think its only the North American market where the 6 and the CX3 are being discontinued

I would usually agree that estate cars are preferable to SUV’s, however wife needs 4wd, and prefers the higher up seating position and tbh, the CX5’s are a really decent drive, although the latest shape one is a lot softer than the original.
We’ve had 4 since 2012, and in fact have just ordered number 5 to get in before the GT Sport goes over £40k, which it will with the next price increase.
The equivalent BMW X3, which would have been her normal go to choice, is over £55k, and it just is not £15k better, either the drive, reliability, residuals, appearance, anything, - thankfully she’s grown out of the badge snob thing.:rofl:.

Yup we have the GT Sport Petrol 2.5 Auto its a bit of a monster but perfect for what we need :slight_smile:

This has been the case since the NB, speculation of which just about coincided with forums as we know them. Typically it starts with some wild speculation, then someone posts a photoshop, some smart Alec points out the photoshop is a disguised SLK/Z3/Z4. Someone then chips in a FWD rumour. Thread goes ballistic. Then there is industrial strength scraping of Japanese boards for any nugget. Everything goes quiet for a bit, the thread kep alive by discussions over a possible V6/V8/V12/rotary/I6. Along the way, someone posts a drop top Mazda6. I expect the equivalent could be someone shopping the top off one of the SUVs and calling it the next MX5. Scarily, given what Ford did with the Mustang name, that could be true. Power output will arise at some point.

Something good looking will arrive, essentially fan art, and fool half of the people

Then the mules arrive, greeted with a mixture of relief, horror, more fights.

The Mazda6 has been canned in the US. The diesel version was dropped last year in Europe; prior to that, Mazda sold less than 2000 of them over the whole of the continent, less than for Canada. Speculation that there is a RWD Inline 6 coming, but I would not be surprised if this is dropped, and its all related to Mada’s prospects of survival as an independant manufacturer.

Ah, ok. We’ve always had diesels, she does around 15k miles a year, so fuelling costs on a petrol would be horrendous as the diesels do around 50mpg, even with auto and 4wd.

You joke but that seems to be the talk around the Audi TT…the 4th generation is apparently going to be an electric crossover!

Years ago Tesla gave us a glimpse of what a small electric sports car could look like with their version of the Lotus Elise. But if Mazda intend producing an electric sports car at all, will they carry on with an MX5 size car or will they change course completely and either produce a bigger sports car or even a convertible 4-seater version of another model from their future range.

We had diesel Kugas and S-Maxs when the kids where young and they were great for that. Especially when the grandparents lived 300 miles away. The 2.4 petrol Previa we initially had was a fantastic car loved it to bits but you were lucky to get 20 mph on a long run :man_facepalming: luckily petrol was more affordable then!

Moreover, the MX-5 going ‘electric’, let’s face it, would be a nightmare. If you enjoy a manual trans, the sweet revving of a petrol engine, the sound of the engine (however non intrusive), the overall driver/car interaction, well, ‘ee vees’ are your worst nightmare. An enthusiast’s equivalent of a terminal disease.
I’ve driven two ‘ee vees’ thus far (I like to how they call these things ‘EVs’ as they basically are non- cars, transportation pods. Who calls their ‘car’ a vehicle lol).
Anyway, I recently drove a MINI ‘ee vee’ and it was a total load of tosh. Zero interaction, a soulless transportation pod, which mildly reminded me of fairground ride rollercoaster carriages, complete with that whiny noise when taking off. I seriously felt almost physically depressed the same evening after driving it, knowing that that ‘could’ be the future, unless they (hopefully) go the same way as diesels, which the powers of be tried to brainwash everyone into buying 15-20 years ago. That worked out well, huh? (not that I particularly wanted diesels to fall victim to the virtuous ‘green’ axe, just meaning, with luck, ‘ee vees’ will end the same way)
Albeit about a year ago, I also drove a ‘range plus’ Tesla which a neighbour wanted me to have a go in (kind chap), as he knows I’m a car guy. Of course I didn’t want to hurt his feelings but it had that fairground-like pull, seemed weird, no noise, just no connection/interaction and it felt like a ocean liner around bends compared to my MX-5. In fact, I went for a spin in the ND about 30 minutes later along the same roads and the ND felt like a religious experience in comparison with its buzzy engine, lightness, rev matching changes (me, not the car), its all round waspy nature.
Makes matters worse when most of the car sites/rags/ journos seemed to have jumped on the politically correct brainwashing band wagon and seem to be convincing themselves that they like them (ee vees) at times.
