25th AE PRHT Fouling on Roll Hoops When Being Raised

I have a 25th Anniversary Edition MK3.75 with the retractable hard top.

When the hard top is being raised the top corners of the rear window frame have started rubbing in identical positions on both roll hoops marking the black roll hoop back.  It is as if the window has for an unknown reason sagged a little  just as it lifts to clear (or not in my case) the hoops and complete the lift.

I’m not sure how long this has been happening as I only noticed the marks on the hoops recently as it’s not often I’m behind the car when the roof is down. It is does not catch when being lowered.

I’m interested to know if anyone else has had a similar issue and, if so, what the fix was.

I would check the tightness of all Allen bolts quickly in case there has been movement and you get teeth jumping which could cause further damage.

Roll hoops are neither use nor ornament IMHO - get rid. If you are really worried about roll overs, then fit a good roll bar. (This may also catch too) Otherwise, do without. May have been happening all the time, but as you say, you just noticed it. Not a problem I have fortunately.

I aware of some of the issues with creaks and groans but never heard anyone mention rubbing before.

Lots of stuff on Miata forum on NC prht issues. One suggestion was has the car ever been in a crash. Poor repair?

In the NC the roll hoop and it’s covers are standard fitment. In the 25ae they are nice and shiny black ones too.
