What does that make my mpg please?

That’s mainly been town driving by the way…

If you have a 45 litre tank - (9.9 gals) - then it’s 27.27mpg
If you have a 48 litre tank (10.57 gals) then it’s 25.54mpg
Thanks Bob!
Either way I clearly have a ‘lead foot’!
Paul.
Forgot to show the maths - number of litres you put in divided by 4.54 gives you the number of gallons used. Miles covered divided by gallons used gives the MPG.
From other threads, I don’t think you are very far off the norm for a Mk1 under urban conditions.
That’s very handy to know, thank you!
I have been paying more attention to my petrol consumption of late and only last night I calculated that my consumption on my last tank full was 31 mpg, whereas from the previous tank I obtained 33.5 mpg. I guess this shows that consumption does vary on a number of factors; speed, road surface, weather, how heavy you are with your right foot etc.
As an aside, I decided yesterday to fill up with Shell V-Power super unleaded instead of the usual Asda or Morrisons Premium unleaded. I know there are several threads about this topic, but I am intrigued as to whether there will be any improvement in consumption, whether there will be any feeling of improved performance or will there just be a placebo effect? Certainly for an extra 9p a litre I expect there to be some sort of difference, either real or imaginary!
I will let you know.
Malcolm
Please let us know Malcolm!
I filled her up on nothing but the premium stuff when I first got her, but times are tough now. I can’t say if it made any difference or not really as most of my driving has been around town and the last full tankful was the first time I’ve made a note of how far it got me…
And remember the music you listen to also affects the right foot…
Angry music = low mpg
I’ve kept a record of each mileage at each fillup since buying the car, and tried out the Super Unleaded for two consecutive almost full tankfuls. It made no difference at all in entirely comparable driving conditions, to the ordinary unleaded used before and after - in fact one reading was marginally down on the earlier ones. Needless to say, I haven’t used Super Unleaded since.
I get around 400Km to 35 litres (my fuel gauge shows empty at 35 litres for some reason)
Normaly I fill up once I get down to a 1/4 of a tank showing on the guage as the lack of a low fuel warning light makes me nervious. I average between a best of 38 mpg (long cruise) and a worst of 29 mpg (mostly around town). BTW I am hoping to ruin my average mpg figure by doing a couple of Track Days (once I have had a practice in a friends just to learn the lines).
The best I have managed on a full tank is 498km before my nerve went and I had to fill up. 43.5 litres on that occation.
9.6 Gallons, 311 miles therefore 32.5mpg.
Still that is beter than I get on the Nissan Terrano even in 2WD.
My best has been 36mpg - did 540km before filling up
on average (and this time of the year with very cold starts etc) around 27/28mpg is more realistic
(PS, Mine’s an auto)
Probably doesn’t mean that much, 'cos:
depends how close to “really really empty” you get, therefore how many litres left in da tank;
depends how many litres you manage to trikkl in wiv de slow finnger at de pomp
I’ve been filling up putting in about 40 lts with the needle just touching the E mark, varies (a LOT!) between 230 miles & 300 plus, with “tank-to-tank” cons from 26-35-ish so far.
Hey Ho, just fill the thing up & drive…
B
I found that the way these little cars are driven massively affects the consumption, although I suspect it’s probably the same with any car.
I usuallt get around 230 miles per ‘tank full’, but once when I drove to a National Rally at 50mph all the way I managed 295 miles from the tank … wasn’t much fun though.
I get around 250 miles on a tank in winter, maybe 270 in summer. That is for about 40 liters of fuel, normally Before the tank light warning goes on
Not as good as I expected from such a small car and engine actually. Perhaps it’s tuned that way i.e. towards performance rather then economy?
Or is it that the wind resistance is pretty poor, which I think is the norm for open top cars?
Not to mention the way you drive it of course
270 miles is good considering the foot/sound/smile factor you get, with regards to the v power unless the car’s mapped to run on a higher grade ? i think it’s mainly a placebo effect, saying that i do get maybe 20-30 miles more in my van when i fill it with v power, weather the increased range is worth the extra money isn’t something i’ve worked out
sort of ties in with the topic, i read somewhere that jdm grade fuel is 99/100 ron (correct me if i’m wrong) so does that mean imports would run better on v power or is it just in the forced induction cars that benefit ?
also is your odometer true? that will make a huge difference!
