- My model of MX-5 is: Series 3
- I’m based near: Bicester
- I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: 30A Fan fuse
Having Googled this various pages tell me this is a J type slow blow fuse. Is this correct?
Cheers
David.
Haven’t got an NC now so can’t check, can’t you remove the said fuse and check?
I love a nice slow blow.
What the hell is a J type slow blow? They’re just standard automotive fuses to me, or bladed fuses, I’ve heard them called . Yes it’s 30A. Have you lost your fuse box cover? It tells you the amperage and what circuit they protect. Is your fan fuse blowing or something?
A bit more help below, probably not urgent to get solved as we’ve heard nothing back🤔
A J-type fuse is a specific squarish-shaped fuse. I don’t think that I’ve seen them used in the NC, which uses a mixture of Mini and Low Profile Mini blade fuses.
A Slow Blow fuse is one which will not trip for a transient current surge, but requires a sustained over-current situation to trip. The alternative is Fast Blow, which will trip with even a transient over-current situation. It’s important to use the correct fuse for the specific application.
“J” type fuses are used on MX-5 NC, one can be seen in the photo in this topic…
In fact, the one shown there is the FAN fuse, although can’t tell if it’s a deep or low profile one.
I’ve just had my fan fuse blow and this is what it looks like when blown. There are two fan fuses, the j type 30A and a std blade type 7.5A
Halfords do them at £2 or so.
The original fuse was shorter in height than the new one. But it fits fine as there is plenty of space before the fuse box lid would be an issue. There are relays in there and they stick up quite a bit.
My only concern now is why the fuse blew as I can’t find anything wrong anywhere thus far.
Hope that helps and hope the pics have uploaded as I’m away at the moment
