30AE 4th service

Its a bit confusing, its a 30AE so its 5 years old next week, so its just had its 4th service!
I am sure Paul would recommend changing both the gearbox & diff oil, he’s a businessman!
The car only does 2.5K miles a year & has never done a trackday.
A few years ago I had a 25AE & had the gearbox oil changed which made the gearbox worse not better!

Respectfully, it sounds like it should have had its 5th service albeit at 59 (and a bit) months old. Refer to the table posted by @ian.prossor Has it missed a service? Maybe it was off the road/barely used during and between the pandemic lockdowns?

Everyone is well meaning - just trying to make sure your car is looked after in the best possible way. The gearbox oil has been done on mine (twice I think so technically ahead of schedule on a 2016 car) and it doesn’t do many miles or track days. No issues afterwards.

For the record…… yes I am a business man but I treat every car as if it’s my own or my daughters, I DO NOT do or sell anything to anyone I don’t genuinely believe is needed.

Many people will actually tell you I often talk them out of things

Good to know. Are you happy working on BBR conversion cars? if so I will probably book it in with you next year.

Mikey, please see my digital record enclosed.
Some services have been late, but I can’t see where its missed one.
I have only owned the car for 18 months.

The December 2022 is not showing as a ‘service’ so it did not have it’s third service till a year later. It did not have a service for two years which is why you are a year out.
With the very low miles I would not be concerned but I would recommend a gear box and diff oil change next year just to be on the safe side.

Is it possible to get a copy of exactly what work was done from the digital service record? ie software updates or parts replaced under warranty.

Not from an MX-5 (CX-3) but if the dealer is using DSR checklists you can download the below from the My Mazda app. There are 2 pages in total.

Any parts replaced under warranty won’t show on scheduled servicing documentation.

Yes happy to work on your car

My first service on my 2019 ND was fine, I had no complaints. A year later a different story, after less than 6000 miles. Quoted £240, as you were. The came the phone call… we need to do this that and the other and the bill will be £700+. Oh no you don’t…
I settled for transmission oil change and new plugs at £30 a pop. Final bill £600.
They are keen on the little extras like washer fluid, fuel additives, oil additives wiper blades, key fob batteries. It all adds up and is a scam. I always make it clear to reception that I won’t pay for this stuff. happy motoring !

So if I’m reading that right, you agreed to an additional £360 of parts and labour on top of the quoted service price, and in return you got some some fresh gearbox oil and new spark plugs fitted??

Why did you have a spark plug change after 2 years, and what, 6K miles?

As stated above from the manual, spark plugs on the nd are not time related, and are only due at 75K miles (irrespective of age).

David, was this with Stoneacre?
When I dealt with the dealer direct they were very good & didn’t try to sell me anything extra. But head office try & flog you everything under the sun. They are now trying to sell me a 3 year interest free service plan!

I take my MX5s to a specialist (Four Paw Racing in Huntingdon) where they’ve done a great job and the price is reasonable for a full service including gearbox oil.

Unfortunately many main brand dealers often rely on cheaper new trainees to do the work but stil charge the kind of prices you’d expect of experienced mechanic. The best mechanics leave to start their own businesses!

Hi, re the service schedule sheet for the ND, would it be the same schedule for the NC ? Would there be a chart available for the NC.

Your Owner’s Manual will have the correct service schedule in it.

Problem is I don’t have an owners manual.

I will see if I can obtain one off eBay or somewhere similar.

All in here .
Navigate through to the maintenance section, (second attachment).

Get your worry beads out , techs very rarely change brake fluid , just syringe some out the reservoir and squirt your nipples with WD
