Does the 1.8 Mk2 have a 5 or 6 speed box?
According to Wiki the NB began to be offered with a 6 speed box on some models from 1999, but by 2001 their table implies it was standard on all 1.8 engines. This clearly is not the case as I am looking (for my partner) for a Mk2 to replace the '98 she sold. Amingst the criteria is air con, and as we both felt her 1.6 5 speed ran out of puff, I have been pushing the 6 speed … yet EVERY ad I have so far found on eBay turns out to be a 5 speed.
Am I chasing something so rare there is little point? Is the 6 speed worth caring about, as I read that when cold it is infuriatingly notchy?
BTW she seeks low mileage, most colours other than black. Hard top appreciated. No rust (ideally sill drains modified) but will pay good money.
