Having driven both on a 2.0 not sure which one I prefer, particularly as it mostly for commuting
The 5 has longer gearing but felt easier to use, the 6 makes for spirited changes to maximize acceleration
What do people out there prefer and why?
Cheers
The 6th gear in the 2 litre is higher geared when you take in the final drive ratio than any of the five speeds cars.
I find the 6 speed no better than the 5 speed box expecialy the reverse position but I prefer the quieter top gear cruising.
My money would go on the 6speed, especially as residual prices start to drop…
6 speed for me makes cruising more relaxed, also more chance to use the brilliant gearbox
You get a limited slip diff with a 2.0 6 speed, do you get one with a 5 speed?
Slip diff makes all the difference for me.

Slip diff makes all the difference for me.
It depends on the flavour of the month… ie what options were specified for that particular edition etc.
My 2008 Mk3 2.0 is 5 speed and has a limited slip diff.
The ESC also helps a lot when the surface is a bit iffy, and keeps it on the narrow even if feeling a bit squirmy.

It’s easy. Isn’t 6 better than 5?

Thanks for the feed back.
Both cars are 2.0 with LSD, cruising is much quieter in the 6!
I have a 6 speed box with LSD. It’s good, I prefer the extra gear. Cruising at 70mph has the revs at ~2800-2900rpm.
What I have seen on NC-roadster.net is the 4th and 5th gears in the 5 speed =~= 5th and 6th in the 6 speed. ( http://www.roadster-nc.com/2013/07/roadster-transmission-drivetrain.html )
other things I’ve heard on the forums are the 6 speed is more prone to “notchiness” in 1st and 2nd when cold. but again, can be reduced with some better tranny oil. Some Ford Motorcraft oil is known to be popular.
Again, It’s up to you, but I enjoy the 6 speed.
