When last I updated the BGW was installed on the Stunt bootlid. With many stickers covering the trial-and-error holes that I had made during the faffing about stage of the process.
With the Mazda Picnic looming I decided it was time to install the Brilliant-Black bootlid and mount the BGW.
Hmmmmmm looks quite good with a plain bootlid!
Can you spot the small problem with the brilliant-black bootlid that I drove 50 miles to collect?
It’s not brilliant-black. It’s just plain old black. COCKSOCKS
Well it’s better than green I suppose. But I am back on hunt for a brilliant-black bootlid with a high level brake light and no spoiler holes! :banghead:
The measurements I have settled on place the rear foot mountings on the curve of the inner skin of the bootlid. On the stunt bootlid I didn’t worry too much about it but on this one I want to be a little neater. There will be some re-enforcing plates added to the inner skin later. So for now a bit of dremmel action was called for!
With the clearance cut in the inner skin I transferred the measurements from stunt bootlid and made the holes.
I’ll never feel happy about making holes in hole-free panels. It makes my tummy feel funny!
With the rear mounting feet attached I could line up the front ones. With the assistance of some electricians tape for support.
It wasn’t long till the full gayness was restored!
I do like the KittyStikahBomb but that plus the BGW was too much. I much prefer the look now :thumb:
Stunt bootlid will now disappear for a while. Before it returns in it’s new fabulous form. Till then it’s BGW all the way!
Once it was on I had a delivery!!! Mr Shogun arrived! I asked him to steal me a handful of big assed washers from work. He decided that was far too pikey and made me some spreader plates! Frikkin awesome work dude! thank you!
He even assisted with fitting them, whilst I heckled.
Then I got some heckling for the state of my car. It was, to be fair, bloody filthy…
So suitably shamed into it I broke out the buckets.
and she’s now all clean and tidy for tomorrow!
It’s raining now… :banghead:
Took the car to a picnic today. Organised by the local OC group and a local Mazda dealership.
The car was clean so I decided to park her 'prominently’
The BGW and Kitty Cam Cover seemed to go down well with the public.
The dealership brought some new cars to display. I got to have a test drive in the Kuro.
Interesting little thing! I wanted to not like it but failed. It’s really rather good.
After careful consideration I am still unsure about the BGW…but I love the wheels and in a way, the low stance and aggression of the wing sort of make it go.
Also…you (or someone in your house) has an old school XJ…good man
I’ve let this get rather out of date haven’t I!
A quick recap of the last twelve months…
I got one of these :
I did this with it:
Car goes much faster now
I keep forgetting to post some Sandringham pics up! Here we go then…
We convoyed down on the Saturday and stayed in the ‘pikey motel’
A rather lovely place where the local travelling folk frequent the bar and will entertain you all evening with their tales of hedghog recipies.
Whisper was looking rather shiny. Big thanks to Shogun for spending a day deep cleaning and polishing her!
Didn’t take us long to get the stand laid out and put on a heck of a show for Sandringham. I was very proud of all the hard work the team put in!
I was also very proud of Whisper. This was my favourite show in terms of crowd reaction. It was great to share her with so many enthusiasts.
My boot install is getting on my nerves now. It all works beautifully and it’s electrically safe… but as anyone who had seen it could attest, it wasn’t very neat .
I suppose the problem is that it grew quite organically. A circuit here, a circuit there. After a year or so of gradually adding functionality the wiring was no longer neat.
Only one thing for it… Take it all out and start again!
I forgot to take a ‘before’ shot. I made a start by removing the battery and unclipping a handful of zip ties.
Yeah… that went nasty real fast…
An hour into it. Everything disconnected and the amplifiers and laptop removed
Another hour later. Wires bundled and tucked neatly away ready for the rebuild. Battery back in. Ready to roll.
All I have to do now is put this little lot back in…
But tidily this time!
The amps…
I might relocate these to behind the seats. Small one behind the driver. Large one behind the passenger. Not sure if there is enough space or if they might overheat there though.
Finally got round to changing my knackered supercharger belt idler pulleys. They were pre loved and seemed a little grumbly.
I picked up a pair of standard mx5 idlers from David Manners over in Oldbury. They are my new favourite place for new MX5 parts.
Idlers removed.
Neither of them sounded that bad once off the car
Mmmmmm shiny! They have solved 60% of the grumbling. Which means the other 40% is the needle bearings in the charger.
I’ll be making plans for an M45 overhaul kit to be purchased then!
While I was at it I took the washer bottle out to remount it more solidly.
Blood-n-Whisky this us all your fault!
Zip ties to the rescue! LoL
Gosh this thread is WELL out of date…
I shan’t bore you with all the updates.
Instead, here are some up to date pictures, as she stands today, my 240bhp, MP62 Supercharged, Roadster.
