97 Mk1 Harvard Immobiliser

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __Mk 1 Harvard
  2. I’m based near: __Chester/North Wales
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Immobiliser

I have a security amber light on my dash that goes out when the engine starts but I have no idea what, if any, immobiliser is fitted. New insurance quote needs details and I don’t have any!
Can anyone assist with info?
Many thanks
Paul

It’s the factory fit Immobiliser. There’s a chip in the key the is read by the car.

It’s a static code and Timpsons (other locksmiths are available) can make you a copy key in a few minutes flat. They drop the key into a little bucket, the code is read (RFID, probably), and they flash the same code onto the new key.

Thank you!

I see a small red patch on the key that must be the security but no info as to what it may be be Thacham etc?

Usually the insurance company are satisfied if you tell them it is a factory fitted immobiliser.
