Hi Guys,
Just thought I’d drop a quick guide on how I fixed my A/C, the garage couldn’t figure this one out so anyway:-
So my issue was the a/c light was on and the a/c was not kicking in even though the revs in the car when idle were increasing to note the button was activating in the Engine Management to turn on the a/c
- Check the fuses for the A/C (if these are blown replace them, they are in the right hand of the facia in the car)
- Check the relays (Diagram 1 and 2, Green box)
- On mine the (Black/Red) wires had rotten through and were not connected, and on testing by reconnecting them to the correct pin on the relay the a/c and 2nd cooling fan fired up. Looking at this area I would say this is going to be a common fault as this is also when the water appears to drain from anything in the engine bay.
- I ordered these Search - Mid-Ulster Rotating Electrics Ltd
- When they arrive MAKE SURE THEY FIT THE RELAYS YOU HAVE
- Cut off the old connectors, leaving enough wire to match up the pins
- Solder (don’t forget heat shrink) or crimp the pig tails to the car wiring loom using the wires above to match the pins
- Plug in the relays and test your A/C
Now I know this won’t fix everyone’s issues, but it should help to get an idea. Even if your refegerent is low you should be able to see if its working as the 2nd cooling fan behind the radiator will spin up and the clutch will engage on the a/c compressor (green box, behind the air intake pipe).
I’ve added a brief video on what the clutch for the A/C should look like when it’s on:- https://youtu.be/CMYX6l5Z390
