So today is a sad day for me. After 3 years of enjoyment my RF has gone.
Ive always wanted a little sports car, i used to walk past a racing green TR7 when i was a little lad on my way to school. I dreamed of getting simlar when i was old.( looking back on it that TR7 never moved, apparently that was a common problem with them)
So i did and its been a great few years, how ever the little boy has grown in to a 6 foot 2, 17 stone guy who really has struggled to get in and out of his lovely little car.
So she has gone, part exchanged into a bigger fun toy.
Thanks to the forum for the ideas and information.
My Dad use to work for British Layland building the TR7âs in Speke, Liverpool. They were also built in Coventry.
I canât remember which way round it was but you could distinguish which car was build in which factory by the emblem on the front. One had TR7 the other had Triump in a crest.
Years⌠and years later he bought one himself, I only got to dive it when he was away on holiday
In 1980 one of the cars I couldnât wait to see run in the Silverstone 6 hours was the Janspeed Twin Turbo TR8 resplendent in BRG, sadly it was not properly prepared and did not set a time in practice.

The following a year I was hoping to see the car run again at Silverstone but this time it crashed before I got there.
The green version is still my favourite Group 5 car. Shame its promise went unfullfilled.
I was up at Knockhill last month for the start of the season and there was a TR8 which dominated the Classics races. Chased around the circuit by another wedge shape - a Fiat X1/9
Have opposite problem being âvertically challengedâ. Test drove a brother-in-lawsâ TR7 but too short to see out the back for reversing.
In similar vein hankered after a Ford Capri [mainly because of the TV series The Professionals] but couldnât see the end of the bonnet !
Thankfully the Triumph Spitfire fitted back in the day and the MX-5 NB seems purpose built for me - even though Iâve shrunk 3 cms since buying her in 2007
First car I ever got out of the drivers seat from on my hands and knees was a Spitfire, there have been plenty of others since including a Midget, Daytona Cobra and GT40 replicas, Prodrive LM Ferrari Maranello with seat fitted for Danica Patrick was most uncomfortable, Ferrari 428 Italia and a Lotus Elise. Luckily Madge my NBFL presents no such problem
âOn my hands and knees getting out of a Triumph Spitfireâ
So TrueâŚI remember it was often lower than the curbs you parked at
and initially sacred the pants off myself as my second car after a Mark 1 1300 Escort !
Always thought the NB an intelligent upgrade of the Spit though [ Maxda]
Funny how one hankers after something until a test drive [on the Bucket List to hopefully have a couple of hours in something I fancy but could never afford - feel sure there are companies out there that do this?]
Our first topless was a Mk2 Triumph Spitfire that we toured Scotland in during the mid 70s (must have been the only time in its history that Scotland had 2 weeks of dry weather!!! ) Our current drive is a Mk1 and I have no problem getting in or out of it, top up or down, and thereâs plenty of room for my 70+ year old, prop-forward stature!!!
I passed my test hankering after a spitfire,got a 50 quid knackered,3 shades of yellow early mini.Saved enough for a deposit,got my loan,bought my valencia blue mk3.
They say you should not meet your heroes, this was the exact opposite,I polished it endlessly, put alloys on it,messed with it weekly.Enjoyed every day of the 4 years I owned it.
To this day I remember the first time I got in it and drove about 10 miles at night,I still remember the smell of the feu orange air fresh, and the sticky 1st gear. That was 48 years ago this summer, and in spite of a catologue of capris,911,944,impreza,and fast BMWs,
Only the mx5 mk2.5 I have now, stirs the same feelings. The mx5 is the British car industries greatest lost oppertunity.
So TrueâŚPlease note the amount of underseal I personally did back in the day from the Black & White pic to the Colour pics plus new carpets yep even removed the seats myself and fiberglass the hole in the boot etc. She went to rust heaven pretty quick but she was my first love before Bullit NB 2.5 1.8 Icon
