As both the 124 and MK4 are pretty much the same car besides exterior and a turbo (I may be wrong), has anyone thought about putting the Abarth 124 quad tip exhaust onto the MK4? Looking at pictures, it looks like it may work. Wondering if anyone has had the same idea or know of anyone who has done this?
I believe you may be right. Think I have read somewhere that it’s a different engine, rather than a Abarth/Fiat sticking their logo on and adding a turbo.
Looking at the photos of both the mufflers, they look to be the same connector and the same fittings to fit.
The 124 Spider, including the Abarth, uses the Fiat 1.4 turbo engine so is unlikely to be compatible ‘out of the box’ at the manifold. Even if it is, the system is tuned for the Fiat engine, not the normally aspirated Mazda 1.5/2.0 so who knows what it will sound like. Nice thought, though, as the Abarth does sound wonderful…
As said it is an entirely different engine. But …err… why on earth would you want to ? It already looks absurd sticking on a quad pipe exhaust on a wheedly little 1.4 turbo four and it won’t look any better on a 1.5 /2litre NA 4 pot . Quad tip exhausts belong , if anywhere , on V12s and on anything with a lower cylinder count it’s an affectation at best…
And have you heard a 124 Spider? Hilariously naff is putting it kindly.
I’ve always liked/wanted a quad tipped exhaust on a car, last car was a Nissan Juke. I find the Abarth 124 sounds good, it’s personal preference at the end often day
