I love my car but do not spend too much time on forum sites, but when I do, I am often confused by the many and varied abbreviations used by site members more ‘in the know’ than I am. So could someone write a list of the more commonly used ones so that people like me can take full advantage of what the site and it’s members have to offer.
I can understant your frustation, as it can take a long time and regular use of the Forum to become familiar with most abbreviations, if at all. If anyone was to compile a list, it would be a long document that could be just as frustrating to cross reference as it is to understand the abbreviation.
So, sorry if I’m teaching you to suck eggs, but the easiest solution; left click and highlight the abbreviation, then right click on the highlighted subject and from the drop down menu select ‘search google for (your highlighted selection)’. Google should then give you a definition, or suggestions that you can relate to.
I’ve noticed that there actually aren’t that many geeky abbreviations on these fora - compared to others I’ve contributed to while owning a different 2-seat convertible.
The most common (though not really abbreviations) are NA, NB, NC and ND. These are the Mazda model designations where NA = Mk.1 (and Eunos imports); NB - Mk 2 and 2.5, NC = Mk.3 - and, you’ve guessed it! - ND is the just released mk4. But you probably knew that.
Others forum speak you might come across
JDM Japanese Domestic Market (any car/accessory/aftermarket item sold in Japan but not UK). Highly prized by many.
RTFM (my favourite) - Read the fckng manual (always a good place to start for the more obvious questions… You have got a handbook and Haynes, haven’t you?)
