ABS and TCS warning light both permanently illuminated...

Looking for some advice regarding a recent issue with my '06 MX5.

Fresh snow fall and TCS was operating as normal then suddenly the wheels began to spin as if the TSC was no longer on.  At that point the ABS lit up as well.  I now have both ABS and TCS warning lights up permanently on the dash.  Has anyone else had this issue and what was the resolution.  Am somewhat concerned in as much as I have read that this will result in an MOT failure along side indications of an expensive repair…

You really need to get it fault code read to see what the cause of the fault is. Have you switched the ignition off, then restarted the engine and driven the car, if possible, without causing wheel slip above about 10 mph? It could be that the ABS control module has registered what it thinks is a fault with the wheel speed sensors (seeing 2 wheels spinning and 2 stationary for a long period of time for example) and just needs a “re-boot” and to see them all working in harmonay again. This type of fault can be induced if you “drive” the car on a vehicle lift with the wheels off the ground.

Oh the joys of modern electronics Confused

Many thanks.  I’ve not taken the car out of the garage since the fault appeared yesterday (too much snow on the roads now) but will try the ‘re-boot’ that you’ve suggested as soon as I can see some asphalt again.  Will let this thread know whether your suggestion has remedied the issue.

Fingers crossed!

 Hi,

Have you checked if any wheel sensor wires have come loose? Also you could have got snow stuck in the wheels blocking the sensors maybe?

Hi, had this problem after driving in long wet grass (don,t ask) it cleared after half an hour normal driving, assumed grass got stuc in the sensors.

Dave.

Morning, advice worked - thanks everyone for your input.  ABS and TCS reset itself after a drive on Saturday.  Had it parked in the garage for a couple of days but ultimately think that the TCS identified that the front wheels were not moving and effectively turned itseld off.  After restarting the car and driving it, it reset itself.

Thanks all!

Very helpful!

The reset needs a turn lock to lock/ not necessarily a drive. The same happens after the battery is disconnected

The lock to lock is for the DSC to learn the steering wheel position, ABS behaves normally without knowing steering angle. The OP had the ABS lamp on to so the lock to lock reset wouldn’t have cleared that.
