Abs Light on some advice please 1.8 nb 1999 code 11 and 63

Just a question intermittent abs light now seems to be on all the time,we have had diagnosed and fault code 11 and 63 have "flashed up " thus pionting towards the  right hand  wheel speed sensor, however does it throw up “63 ABS Module Power Supply Malfunction” as a matter of course or is this an unrelated issue that also needs to be addressed, the car has been sitting for some time.

Your help advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Dont worry about the “63” code, it is just your sensor that is goosed, try giving it a clean first, before forking out for a new one,if you do need one give Andrew a ring at Autolink.

Quite possibly has a lump of rust stuck to it (magnetic trigger sensor for wheel speed) off your rusty brake backing platesThumbs up

Thanks I have tried cleaning it with wheel cleaner “wonder wheels” ,any other tips before I fork out,the car due to circumstances is being sold, and the second viewing the light came on, the guy has spoken to his local garage and they have put the fear of christ in him quoting £1000s. I reduced the car accordingly because the fault as I did not want the aggrevation of it.

Oh and of course will be purchasing another Mx5!!

Rubbish

Get a new sensor fitted, for around £120 mark thats fitted with a new sensor, a s/hand one will be cheaper from the likes of Autolink or mx5heaven,these chaps are breakers of Mx’s so a s/hand will be tested before it is sent out, which one is it? front or rear.

Don’t you just hate it …“Front”

Just spoken to the lads at autolink and they have one only which is new,if thats of any help.

Tell them you have spoken to me Wink

Thanks for that I will, I will double check tonight by running a wire from the front nearside into the o/s connector and see if the light goes off as a doble check, what I just do not understand is how it failed while just sitting there?

Thank you for confirming my thoughts on this matter,I guess when people think of ABS issues ££££££s spring to mind, garages I guess do not want to under quote potentail bills for complicated parts.

I appreciate your expertise.

Er a bit of help required did not seem to work my idea ,Doh, Now both 11 and 12 are showing as a fault code what have  I done???

I think the failure of the front WSS is due to rust build up in the hole round the sensor, which squashes the sensor and causes them to fail.

Now that is an interesting explanation Robbie.  The rust will very slowly grow, swell and crush anything in its path, rather like tree roots will damage drains over time.   I find your theory most informative.

Yes thanks did not know that

You’ll find that when you come to change it, the old one will very very tight and siezed in the hub and you’ll have to file alot of rust away to make the new one fit.
