ABS sensor resistance

I have a 1992 Eunos Roadster. ABS light comes on after I move off. Testing sensor reistance Three read 983 Ohms and the fromnt left reads 1548 Ohms. Before purchasing a new sensor i conneted the front right sensor to both sides and fault wnet away. Connecting front left sensor to both sides resulted in ABS light coming on. Thus purchased a new sensor from MX5 parts for Mk1 MX5 1989-1998 and early Mk2. Fitted sensor but foolishly did not test resistance before fitting. Fault did not go away. Then checked sensor resistance which is 1598 Ohms. I believe this resistance corresponds to a later sensor. packaging of spare says 1993 on not 1989 on. Connecting front right sensor to both sides again got rid of fault. Connecting new sensor front left to both sides resulted in ABS light coming on. Thus question is are there two different specs for sensor (PS - don’t know is fault was there previously as ABS light wasn’t working on dash. Replacing bulb for MOT illuminated ABS light).

Can anyone with an early MX5 or Eunos roadster measure their front sensor resistance. Done easily enough as you can see where cable comes throgh the front inner wings and connector comes aprt fairly easily.

Thanks for any help,

Dean-
I’m puzzled as to how you managed to connect one sensor to both inputs, but however - you seem to have answered your own question, without recourse to other possible '92 owners to check the resistance of their sensors; assuming they can and will, or they have a multi-meter, and not everyone has one.

Just ring MX5parts and explain to them that you have a '92 car, and the one they sent is intended for a '93 onwards, so it’s the wrong one. If they have the correct type, then I’m sure they will do an exchange, though you may have to pay for return postage on the incorrect item. Failing that, contact Autolink, and see if they have the correct sensor, or can get one.

The only person in the club who has access to a works manual is Roadster Robbie, who posts rarely these days (I don’t blame him for that!) and if you can find a recent post, PM him and ask the question, but I’m sure you’ll get a quicker response from MX5parts or Autolink.

Here are the part numbers; basically, no matter which 1.6 Roadster you have, its the same part. MX5parts have supplied you with a part for a 1.8.

NA6CE, early or late type

ABS front sensor ® NA23-43-70XD
ABS front sensor (L) NA23-43-73XD

NA8C, Series 1

ABS front sensor ® NA23-43-70XE
ABS front sensor (L) NA23-43-73XE

They likely have gotten away with it as 1.6 Mk1s with ABS are incredibly rare, UK or import.

Mazda dealers will be able to order the correct part based on your VIN.

Check also with Rockauto; they are listing pattern sensors for about £100 plus vat and shipping.

Japanese market part numbers are at:

http://www.do-da.co.jp/sun-mec/partslist.html

Run it through google translate.

Nearly all the parts are the same as for the US. US parts listing are at:

https://www.miata.net/garage/90-99Parts/index.html

At the very least, you can compare the pictures, and at least know what Mazda calls the part. Showing the part number is no good at the Mazda parts counter. They need a VIN. I suspect most (but not all) dealers will have access to the worldwide EPC, which will enable them to order in the part from Japan (doesn’t take long to arrive, and there is no shipping charge).

Sensor resistance should be 1.1Kohm (± 0.1Kohm).

And at the weekend Wink

Thanks for all the replies. Will contact MX5 parts tomorrow. Have already emailed them so shall see what they say. Will update when I get ABS sorted. Sounds like I have the correct info. The sensor i was sent corresponds to the 1.8 part number and of course I have a 1.6.
