Accelera Alpha tyres. Anyone any experience?

Had the misfortune to ruin a wheel and tyre on my MK3 Sport – a 10 spoke wheel. Knowing the exorbitant price of Mazda wheels, I decide to purchase a set of new alloys with tyres.

I have purchased a set of Fox wheels which come with Accelera Alpha tyres as standard. I searched Google for tyre reviews on the tyres and got a predictable mixed response from “fantastic” to “throw them away”.

To get them with Toyos would have added almost £200 to the cost so decided to stay with the Accelera.

So far been tentative as roads are very wet. Apart from a hairy moment on black ice they seem fine. And the ”DSC” light has barely been seen (apart from on the black ice) – certainly less than would have been the case on Proxes.

Has anyone else any experience with these tyres? And, has anyone a 10 spoke MK3 wheel they could sell me?

Hi Jim,

I have experience with these tyres, the rubber is extremely hard, not very good if you’re enthusiastic in your driving. This is when some people would argue that you get relatively good treadwear for little money. Personally I like to have a tyre that I know will get me out of trouble in sticky situations. Also, please note, Acelera tyres will crack along the sidewall (In my opinion at least 90% do).

For my own car, I would stay well clear of them. However, I am picky and one drivers ideal in tyre is not necessarily anothers.

*P.S. My dad job is nothing but tyres. Hope this helps
