I count 4 wires, so will swap the wheel over and see what happens!
You have the “right” number of wires going to the switch, but I suspect you have the Non cruise control switch, which only utilises two of the wires ie has only two contacts.
The switch for cruise control has four contacts inside.
The Mazda part number for which is GJ6E-66-490.
( Be mindful that the part number for the two contact switch is GJ6A-66-490
)
Ah I see! That makes sense, thanks.
What about the steering wheel wiring loom? Very interested in the process.
Breakers normally leave the wiring still attached inside of steering wheels. OP will just need to take out the old steering wheel and then install new wheel with the wiring inside it.
@Wardy5 , Good news on the wiring for the brake switch.
Now unplug the loom and see how many pins are on the switch; if its only 2, one of the third party brake switches on ebay will suffice.
Hmmm, ok. I believe that mainland European don’t have the cruise control wires in the loom if it was not ordered with cruise control ánd that the ECU is missing the software for it…
If anybody is still contemplating doing this, there is currently a CC equipped steering wheel
and four contact brake pedal switch on ebay at the moment.

Hi…. Thanks for this post.. was doing research into cruise for a 2007 NC 1.8 and came across this thread and your advice. Fitted same unit today and it’s a great mod and superb addition. Appreciate the “direction”
Good stuff…
Pete
Another thank for this post ! Got home from work at 1.15 and now have Cruise control fitted to my 1.8 Kuro !
Big shout out to MX Hive near Ilkeston! Only found out about them as due to this thread I started looking for a wheel with CC - found one near me and it turns out Mike is a MX-5 specialist and only 10 mins from me !
Had the choice of buying the steering wheel and haven’t it fitted for £100 or keeping my steering wheel (which is mint) and Mike swapped the panels over !!
So £100 and I’ve got CC ! Well chuffed !
