Additional Gauges Query

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 2.0 NC Sport
  2. I’m based near: London__
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Has anyone added additional gauges (Oil Temp/Oil Pressure/Water Temp). It would be good to know what people have done and what they needed to get them all working.

I dont trust the standard items (especially the oil pressure) and as its a track car I dont want to pop an engine when it could be avoided with some early detection.

Thanks!

You could consider an aftermarket head unit and get the information from the Torque app.

Only issue with the NC is that the oil pressure is not being read directly - it is calculated in the ecu and displayed on the dash.

For true oil pressure you would need to install a sensor and gauge.

I’ve fitted all 3 gauges to my NC, mounted on a binnacle on the dash. The oil pressure is T’d from the oil filter plate, as I’ve fitted an oil cooler in front of the radiator. The same T piece provides the oil temp connection. The water temp comes from a collar on one of the water pipes at the top of the engine.

The binnacle is fitted over the grille on the top of the dash, where all the wires are fed though.

The gauges came from ebay, lots of suppliers sell them. The binnacle came from ebay as well.

This is a great idea. Any link to the surround I need for an NC??

This is a great idea I was considering a oil cooler as its a track car. I’ll get an A pillar mount!

This facia is for the 2005 to 2008 NC1

This facia is for the 2009 onwards NC2 & NC3

Thank you!

Just a point worth noting. On a NA Eunos you can fit 3 additional gauges nicely into the space vacated by the original japan radio. A ready made plate with 3 cutouts can be purchased on e bay or maybe MX5 parts.

I’ve been eyeing up a kit from Rotarytronics

There’s a few different options in terms of both replacement sensors (to give you real readings) and gauges but what I like is that they all keep things looking pretty OEM (or OEM+)

There’s probably more budget ways to go but it’s certainly cheaper than an engine rebuild!

I really like that as a solution. I’ll drop them a line! Thanks

Nice, if you go for it keep me posted. My car is bone stock powertrain wise at the moment, but I have a decat manifold to install and am planning on tracking it more regularly so seems like a sensible investment.

Before that though, I need a roll bar :upside_down_face:

Will do!

My roll hoop should be here soon! I definitely wont go on track without it! Just incase :-S
