Adrian Flux Quote

Hi all,

I really can’t believe the quote I received off Adrian Flux yesterday for a Mk3 2.0 Roadster.

3,341 GBP

Now I am 49 years old with 2 years NCD (my only claim did not involve anyone and had to have a front axle replaced on my Jeep I had due to it leaking oil and being out of warranty).

However I can not believe this.

I have been quoted anywhere from 350 - 550 so far by others for fully comp but this just takes the proverbial.

My wife’s quote for a Skoda Fabia is 1348 GBP…errrrr hello…

Adrian…if you read this I would “really love” to hear your explanation on this.

Have you got a Flux capacitor  fitted to the car ?

For reference:

My 2006 2.0 sport roadster I insured with them last August, 5000 miles PA, pleasure use only. 3years NCB and kept off road in a locked carpark - £300 fully comp inc fully comp on any car to a max claim of £20k

I’m 53 and have a WS postcode

My renewal quote from AF this year (my second year with the car) had gone up considerably. I’d not made a claim.

I shopped around and obtained similar cover for 55% of their price.

To say I was flabbergasted would be a slight understatement … my wife has 7 years NCD and still quoted what she was for a Fabia.

I tried them last year and their quote was about double what I was already paying.

Mind you this year I went to money supermarket, and my quotes ranged from £250 to £11,005 for a car worth £2500.

Hello,
I currently have both of my cars with Flux and I rarely renew annually. Mx5 costs £101 to insure.
MX5 (currently for sale. See ad on forum)
- clean licence for 30 years
- limited mileage contract 5,000 miles per year
- garaged
- 3yrs NCD as a second car (max NCD on the other)
- Fully Comp
- Brighton postcode
- 47 yrs old
The next part made a big difference (I think it was around 25% discount)
- RoSPA Gold advanced drivers award
- IAM (Roadsmart) F1rst advanced drivers award.
- MX5 Owners Club Member

Make of that what you will but it’s no secret that by passing advanced driving courses, that your risk criteria changes dramatically in the eyes of many insurers. I had four competing quotes of around £100 and about seven of around £110-150, so flux was not unlike the others.

Our main car a BMW M235i is insured with Direct Line, we bought the 06 MX5 2 ltr auto last December and as it’s the wife’s it’s insured as a second car again with Direct Line, this is the first car she has ever insured herself so has nil no claims benefit and she paid only £220ish fully comp, limited to 3k miles which suits us.

Insured my son’s first car, a 1.25 14 plate Fiesta Zetec at Christmas. Naturally, even being 28 and having driven everything in the MOD chucks at him bar tanks…in war zones too, it made no difference.

No civvy history etc. We live in a good area, and the car would usually be parked outside his quarters in a heavily MOD guarded area.

Never the less, AF thought £1,840.00 fully comp inc all whistles & bells was fair.

Hasting Direct via Go Compare thought £620 to include me as a named driver was better.

I agreed.

It’s a minefield out there.

this may be too simple an explanation but it really sounds like the person on the other end of the phone at AF read the figure off their screen wrong, and got the decimal point in the wrong place… I would query it, £300.00, not £3,000.00 is typical for an MX-5 quote before factoring in some negotiation and other factors to bring it down…  it can also happen that you get one little detail wrong, or they can and it makes a huge difference. I seem to recall accidently telling an insurer a car was left hand drive, made a big difference until corrected.

Insurance for our MX-5, insured for both my wife and I to drive, a 2008 2.0L Sport coupe, from Direct Line, was a little over £300 - that was with no proof of no-claims, because my wife has a company car too.

Martin’s explanation about the customer services person you spoke to at AF seems quite logical !

Be interesting to see the feedback from AF.

Is it likely though as the OP has excessively high quotes for two cars?

Indeed,

One I could (possibly) accept as a mistake but two excessive quotes is…bleep, bleep, bleep and bleep
