Advice for brake upgrades on a mk3?

Hi all,

My 2007 NC Sport needs new discs and pads, can anyone recommend a good combination? The car will do the odd track day but it will spend most of it’s time on the roads. Are these on MX5 parts any good? (EBC Turbogroove discs & Greenstuff pads)

Any advice is very much appreciated, thanks!

If you are going to go on track then just plain discs and Yellow Stuff. EBC Yellow Stuff Brake pads

Discs and pads around would be £301

We upgraded the front discs and calipers to RX8 as we found brake fade an issue at track days, slightly heavier than the std units, but way more effective on track. A secondhand set of calipers with a refurb kit cost about £100 and the new Brembo discs were about £75 the pair, I used Brembo pads at around £40. The rear pads were Brembo too.

All in all a lot cheaper than a big brake kit and very effective. If we do a lot more track days this year I may get some Ferodo D2500 pads which I used when racing a GT86 Cosworth.

May have to look at that in the future. I’ve not driven the MX5 since I bought it and just found that the front calipers have seized. Ordered new brembo discs and yellowstuff pads but I hadn’t thought about the calipers. I’ll try to rebuild them as the new seals are cheap and then possibly upgrade to the RX8 ones in the near future. Is it a straight swap?

I run standard disks with Yellowstuff pads on track and they perform really well. You will find yourself cleaning the wheels a lot more often as they give off more brake dust but that’s no biggy. You will want a decent brake fluid also. I use Motul RBF 600.
