Advice on Light Vibrations

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __ND Sport Nav
  2. I’m based near: __Oxford
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Vibrations in steering wheel

Hi all,

I have just bought a 2016 ND Sport Nav with around 33k miles on it. I’m a first time owner of a MX-5

In general, its a great car, but I seem to have a small amount of vibration in the steering wheel and the gear stick. Is this normal on an ND or do I have a problem?

The car pulls and drives well, other than that. If it was at a certain speed I’d suspect wheel balance, but as I say it seems to be at all speeds.

Any advise or thoughts welcome, and if anyone in the OX5 area fancies popping by and giving me their view that would be great too!

Cheers

Sheldon

Check tyres or alloys for damage or uneven wear. Maybe go get the wheels rebalanced, try swapping front to rears too.

The gear stick is practically mounted straight into the gearbox beneath so it does act a little more lively than most cars which have additional linkages etc. The upside is that lovely shift action.

How old are the tyres? Do they all match (make and size). If the tyres are getting old you maybe wise to invest in a new set. If the tyres are newish then follow MickAP’s.

You might also want to check alignment if wheels and tyres seems ok.

Thanks everyone. I will get the balance etc checked.
