Have done a fair bit of searching on the MX5 forums and online car mat companies but still haven’t found what I am looking for. I have a lovely set of original chequered mats which came with my Eunos and I save for special trips To minimise wear. I have had a pair my MX5 parts mats which I bought 2 years ago for everyday use and are good quality with little wear but just don’t look very special and I don’t like the MX5 parts logo which just looks like some free advertising for them. Anybody had any joy finding good quality mats with a good logo - I would be happy with ”MX5” ”Roadster” or “Eunos” in white or silver on black mats and perhaps with green trim.
Thanks for that Safetymatch. I have seen similar but the difficulty is knowing what the quality is like. Have had very variable and unpredictable results for my other cars and the car mat companies own grading systems for level of quality are unreliable in my experience. Would be good to know if any forum members can make personal recommendation after a period of usage.
The best ones seem to be factory JDM mats; ones in black are fairly easy to get hold of used. UK aftermarket mats can be had with all sorts of logos, colour combination, edging. But the heel pads always come off, , the leather edging comes apart.
Mazda has recently reissued the original brown or black mats. VERY expensive.
I hope the MX5 mats are better quality than the OEM Mazda3 set the Mazda dealer fitted in our 2016 Mazda3. SWMBO has put her heel right through the clutch foot-resting point in only 9,000 miles.
Thanks Saz for providing some more options and I generally agree re the aftermarket ones although on rare occasion have found some good quality ones for other cars I have owned.
I do really like the chequered mats - the original ones I have with spikes on the bottom seem to be very good quality but I don’t want to risk using them too often
I expect you’re probably right. After 29,000 miles the “unique” mats in my Niseko look like they went in maybe only a month ago. But then I don’t wear women’s shoes…
Actually Saz just found some black genuine Mazda mats on Autolink with nice MX5 logo at £32.15 + vat which I am happy to pay if the quality is right. They state that these are the. “ luxury “ mats and not the standard ones - difficult to know if these are the same ones which sell at £24 at MX5 parts - the pictures look the same or certainly very similar ( some reviews on the MX5 parts site indicate early wear in the heel area and the better reviews may be from owners who haven’t had the mats long ). This is one area where buying online falls down - you really want to have the mats in your hands to feel the weight and assess the quality before purchase. I will probably just have to take the plunge
