New member here, super thrilled to be part of the group and looking forward to meeting likeminded folks similarly obsessed with their MX-5!
So, at Silverstone festival yesterday someone reversed into my Mk3, denting the wheel arch and chipping the paint. Photo attached!
Does anyone have any recommendations for garages to take her to in Reading (RG1) that won’t cost the earth, or advice on how to fix this myself? I’ve seen that I can buy the paint online and potentially use hot water to pull the dent out, but does anyone here have any experience with this?
She’s my first car (though passed my test 10+ years ago) my dream, pride and joy. Yesterday was my 3 month anniversary with her, so naturally I’m gutted this has happened!
I’ve used https://www.bgs.co.uk several times over the years. Always got the job done for a fair price. They are located between Winnersh and Hurst.
I don’t think hot water will help much with that dent, the wing is metal, hot water may help with dents on plastic. Not sure if your bumper has suffered damage.
The are off Portman Rd which is parallel to the Oxford Rd, not far from the old Battle Hospital site where one of Tesco’s super stores is now to be found.
Never used them or the super store!
You’re a gem, thank you for the rec, I’ll check them out!
Thanks also for the feedback on hot water - I’m not convinced it’ll do what i need, and without taking more paint off!
Forgot to welcome you to the OC.
Not sure if you are aware but there is a club national rally on 14th Sept just the other side of Henley on Thames. With the mirror hanging ticket, club member and passenger get in free. The mirror hanging ticket is included in the August edition of the club mag. Depending on how recently you joined you may have recieved this info already, if not you may have to contact the club admin and ask for a ticket.
Always worth going to a rally, there are always a few MX-5’s to look at and a bunch of nice people to chat too! Not to mention the burger vans and the parts/accessory people!
If you brought that into our bodyshop, it would be a new wing as the time and effort to get that anywhere near perfect just wouldn’t be worth the effort.
Hey!
No worries at all, the more the welcome!
So I went to Rivermead Accident and Repair originally because they are licensed by Mazda for parts and stuff, though I’m still waiting to receive the quote from them. Caversham Coachworks came back to me WAY quicker with a very reasonable quote, so I’m going to use them. I’ll let you know how it goes!
