Advice sought on brake caliper colour

On my list ‘to do’ is repainting the brake calipers. I’ve got a 2012 NC2 venture edition that is in a lovely Metropolitan grey with the grey alloys. I’m thinking of black, grey or possibly red but as I’m a newbie to mx5 life I’ve not been able to see the choices in the flesh. Here’s my current wheel combo. Just after some advice, any photos would be much appreciated tnx

Gold looks good. Personally I’d shy away from red, it’s been done to death.

Mine in red (well I think) stand out against the anthracite coloured alloys.
Whatever gets heat resistant paint.

I have done mine black. Mainly because it was easy to get a good finish and because it hides dirt well. Discreet too. Comes down to what you like. :+1:

I went with BMW M-sport blue metallic with my grey alloys.

Any photos please?

Silver gets my vote, they’re just brakes after all.

Choosing a colour can mess with your head. I started wanting red, then gold, then blue. I can never get a good photo of them on the car. It’s pretty much this…

However, when I ordered it through a detailer it looked dull in the tin compared with another he had on the van from a previous job, which was what he called M Sport Blue code RAL Blue Metallic 640-M. It has a few metallic purple shades in certain light.

Even on the BMW forums they can’t decide if the Brembos are Estoril Blue, Monaco Blue or a secret Brembo formula.

Online photos can never be 100% accurate. You have to see them in daylight, under street lights and behind different colour wheels. I walked around a BMW dealership car park to get a better impression. When all is said and done they will be obliterated by brake dust and crud as soon as you drive down the road.

Choosing the colour of your M5 CS calipers will cost you £5k!

However, beware, unless you have calipers that have size, painting them a bold colour can just make them look inadequate and silly.

These were supposed to be a gold finish, look more like bronze, I liked them so
kept the colour.

Agreed.

My Niseko was Icy Blue and I found some Pontiac Blue engine enamel for the calipers. With the silver wheels it looked OK at a glance because the match between the two blues was almost there.

For the Soul Red 25AE I’ve ordered some Black engine enamel for the calipers, mainly to keep the Red and Black theme going and the wheels are Black (almost), but also for laziness so I don’t have to clean them quite so thoroughly!

Thanks all for taking the time to get in touch.
Like you all say it’s a very individual choice, one of which I’m sure I will make a decision on soon.

I like my red calipers, but they are “loud”

Yellow would look fantastic imo

Very true, think I’m going with silver

Black for me, bright calipers are fine if it’s a nice caliper to look at, on these it usually ends up “hey look at my single piston sliders!”

I randomly chose blue and I quite like them.

Funnily enough just done mine . I went for red as it suited My venture 3.75 in Misty Blue. Used ETech heat resistant paint (Amazon )and spent the time with small wire brushes (Amazon £4) and masking as it makes the difference, don’t rush as done in situ.
The paint was really good , easily applied and not runny , gave all four calipers 3 coats and I have half a tin left, done in two days, cost less than £25 and really pleased :+1:

Looks good and yep I’ve used that paint before on a Golf Gti, came out well :ok_hand:
