Steve and Jill

Hi

Hilly and I would love to attend - see you Sunday

Andrew

Hi Andy and Hilly

Excellent news, see you on the 1st

Barry

Most of the Cambridge (Milton) lot have PMR radios default tuned to Channel 6 of the UK licenced frequencies, with Tone control so the channel becomes semi-private for club runs.

We will be bringing our radios with us, and I will be bringing 3 spare ones as well - if anyone else has a spare, can you bring it in case anyone would like to borrow one?

You can buy them very cheaply and the Baofeng units have a good following in the PMR and amature bands. I have a multiband model that covers amature 70cm and 2 meter bands as well as UK and European PMR and it cost less than £30 2 years ago. Now cheaper . . .

When they arrive, they are defaulted to a set of frequencies and bands that are, basically, illegal to use and using them causes interference to emergency services and other organisations and should NOT be used straight out of the box.

You can get a programming lead (often free with the radio) and there is free software on the web so you can connect the radio, change the channels and make it suitable for legal UK and European use.

Our radios are set up to use the 16 PMR channels as follows:

Channels 1 to 16 - Club channels with “tone” control, so only other radios on the same tone can hear and speak to each other. This means we get interference-free channels when we use them. We default to Channel 6.

Channels 101 - 116 - These are the standard UK PMR channels and are “open”, so anyone with a radio on the PMR channels can speak and hear anyone else.

Lastly, 71 - 86 - These are set to the European channels and their power settings, so anyone travelling abroad and using them will (should) have no issues.

A selection available on eBay

BAOFENG RADIOS

If a group wanted to get a set, I will happily set them up to be UK/EUR frequencies as above if you drop them off to me or cover postage costs. Makes inter-area meets a bit easier as well.

We all had them with us for the Sutton Hoo run on Wednesday last and they all worked well, people “left behind” at road junctions could let us all know and then tell us when they were through. Made keeping the Group advised on what’s happening easy. Another advantage is the lead car can shout-out a warning, like “Runners in road, Horses!, Cyclists!” giving following cars fair warning of anything unexpected.

Good Evening

My apologies for the late reply, we always have enough to feed and water at the 5000 at Merlins, so will have plenty for you both. Look forward to seeing you Sunday.

Kind regards

Barry

Hi Barry & Jen,
We have some appointments to deal with this morning but will try and move some things around and try to get to yours for the afternoon tea. Don’t think we will make the run but will see how time goes.
Regards Mark and Carole.

Great Stuff, See you later today

PS. The run will be starting at about 13:30hrs.

Barry

Thank you Barry and Jenny for organising and hosting a wonderful day out. We thoroughly enjoyed the run and catching up with friends that we have not seen for a while.
Kev and Sue.

Absolutely! Great host and hostess, fun run around and, other than a quick shower, good weather; top down driving all the way around.

Jeff

Good Morning and Thank You for those kind words.

Our only wish for yesterday was that everyone had a good time, which, from the comments and thanks we have received, it appears that everyone did.
Without you guys there would not have any point in organising the meet.

Incidentally, your kind donations will be going to the RSPCA Rescue Centre at Block Fen, Near March, (the centre our two dogs, Daisy and Mia came from).

Kind regards

Barry and Jenny

Good Morning

It was entirely our pleasure. It was so good to see you all after what seems an eternity, hopefully we can now carry on and slowly resume some normality in our lives.

Incidentally the kind donation will be going to the RSPCA, Rescue Centre at Block Fen, (that’s where our two dogs, Daisy and Mia came from).

See you soon

Barry and Jenny

Got toom for another when the next run out happens?

Hi Barry and Jenny
We just wanted to say that you so much for organising yesterday’s run in the MX5’s we had great fun and didn’t recognise most of the road we were on ! . Thanks very much Jenny for the wonderful food that you supplied for us all, it was delicious.

Many thanks for those kind words, we both enjoyed the day, although by about 8 o’clock we were both struggling to stay awake!

We took the fabulous donation to the RSPCA at Block Fen this afternoon, they were so thrilled with it, they immediately put a blog on their facebook page thanking us.

We will be going to the Ffolkes on Thursday or Friday to see if they can find room for us, after which I will contact you with the idea of trying to organise a meeting.

See you soon

Barry

Dear Barry and Jenny.

In accordance with the old traditions of the OC we are writing to thank you for every aspect of Sunday’s session together. It was, as expected, a delight to meet many old acquaintances and your contacts in N Norfolk. The pre-session and then the Run were a whirl and most enjoyable and, unlike things organised by the Cambridge group, your timetable was respected and achieved to deliver us back to a spectacular display of food to cover every taste and pleasure.
More chat in all sorts of directions, lots of models to admire and much talk of cars, Mazdas and Aircraft and a reluctant departure to return home. Many happy memories THANK YOU BOTH for all your efforts. Sorry for the delay in this note, we agree with all those that were quicker than us to write.

Good Morning

You are far too kind with your thanks, all we did was provide the platform, it takes others to make an event successful.

Hopefully catch up again soon.

Kind regards

Barry
