Air Bag Light After Leather Seat Upgrade

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __NC1 2.0 (2007)
  2. I’m based near: __Norwich
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Seat wiring

Hi All,

Just upgraded from cloth seats with airbags to leather seats with airbags and heater elements with height adjustable driver’s seat due to my other half being dinky, these leather seats were removed from a 2007 NC Sport.

However since fitting them the air bag light flashes for 2 long flashes and 2 short flashes.

I’ve reseated the connectors and left the negative off the battery to no avail.

I suspect there are some wiring differences and may have to move some pins around, although the large white plastic connecters do click together fine.

Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers

Jon

Code 22 means the car can’t read the drivers side airbag module properly.

I would re-check you have the connector fully seated and that none of the pins have popped out.

The fact that the car is only having issues with the drivers seat would tell me the seats are compatible.

Ok, so pulled the upgraded leather seats out of the car and cleaned the connectors with contact cleaner and reseated the connectors again to no avail.

I plugged in my diagnostic tool and it told me the driver’s seat airbag had an open circuit.

Out with the driver’s seat and checked the wiring. On inspection I can see there are 3 pairs of wires coming from the car loom but only 2 pairs of wires coming from the driver’s seat, one pair of wires going to the driver’s seat belt and the other pair im guessing is for the heated seats.

Thinking about it, I’ve just realised my old cloth seats had an airbag tag on the driver’s seat , but on the new seats the airbag tag is on the passenger seat, so I wonder If the main airbag module is on the other seat meaning the looms would be the other way around and would explain the lack of connectors of the drivers seat

If I disconnected a pair of wires from the passenger seat and ran a new pair of wires to the driver’s seat, this in theory would sort this problem! :grinning:

Watch this space :crossed_fingers:t3:
