Air con re-gas (R12!) Anyone had it done?

Has anyone had their R12 air con refilled, or know of anyone in the area that can recharge the system?

Quick Fit used to (and may still) do a re-gassing service for around £45. If they find a problem and can’t complete the job they won’t charge you, which is quite a good way of getting the system checked. I bought a DIY re-charging kit for my other car which cost about £30 (as there’s no Quick Fits here in France) and it worked a treat and there’s enough to top it up a few times if needed.

R12 was banned years ago, R22 is all but banned now. You may need to find out it can be recharged with R410A ?

Google “Retro Pro Air Con”

I had mine regassed a couple of years ago by an aircon specialist in Poole, Dorset (sorry, not exactly local to you though). This was after a failed visit to kwik fit whose website failed to detect the age of my car from the registration number and booked me an appointment.

GEOFFNMAZ - have you used this product?

Ok, so I contacted ACRE in Carterton who came out to my work a week last Tuesday and had a look at the car for me, he put some R134a gas in the car whilst I had the engine running and the A/C activated, and hey presto the compressor kicked in! It still has the gas (or enough to in it to keep it working) now, so next week I’ll arrange to go to them for a full service and conversion! Proper chuffed! Top service from them!
