Air filter help

I have just been to the local Mazda dealer for a new air filter for my Mk3. Totally different from the one in at the moment which is obviously not a genuine one and has no markings. The new one is flatter and has up and front on it. Question is, up is obvious, but I think I saw on here that front does not point to the front of the car but to the back of the engine bay ? Anybody else got this type of filter and can confirm what way round it goes. Photos for info.

Yeah, wait for someone with more knowledge than me (i.e anyone) to advise, but looking at that ‘front up’ looks like a common sense thing, meaning the ‘front’ of it, as in your first pic, is what is seen from the top. You’ll put it in and it’ll sit there looking like it does in your first pic?

If you fit it with the bulk of the filter underneath so the arrow points upwards, that should be the right way round if I remember correctly.

My top tip is to take the car for a run before swapping the filters because it’s a very stiff fitting and I find it easier when everything is warm and more pliable.

Thanks for that. I’m sure i saw something on here that said front actually points to the back of the car but can’t find it again. Had also read the tip about warming it up so was planning to do that.

The filter housing has a a different profile on one corner to aide getting the filter to marry up and fitted the correct way.
