Alarm randomly going off

Hi - we are new MX5 2009 (hard top) owners. Have had her about 2 months now. In last few days the hazard lights & alarm start going off randomly usually around an hour or so after parked up (all windows closed, roof secured & doors locked using the fob). However many times I unlock & re-lock, start the engine & reset it, it keeps happening, but not predictably, so catches us off guard & wakes everyone up! Noticed it this morning too whilst I was at a breakfast meeting; lights + bleep go on for a few minutes before turning off, maybe then starting again a few minutes later & maybe not.

Advice welcome please - I’m looking through the manual but can’t see anything yet & want to get sorted so get a bit more sleep tonight!

thanks - Carin

Have you left a device, phone, laptop, ipad or the like in the car? These conflict with the alarm and set it off, guess how I know why/

just a shot in the dark; have you got a wet passenger carpet after the rain?

Thanks Mick & Jow - the answer to both is no, not as far as I know, but will do a thorough check. I see from the manual that I can disable the motion sensor on the key fob will try that as a short term fix, but open to other suggestions …

I bought a 2005 NC two years ago.

Within 5 minutes of parking it on the drive, the alarm went off.

I disabled the motion sensor using the fob, and it didn’t go off again.

Now 2 years later, I still haven’t got around to testing it. I still disable the motion sensor.

We went to the seaside on Sunday, and this was the first time in 2 years that I’ve not disabled it.

25 yards out of the car park and I could hear an alarm going off, typically, by the time I’d gotten back in to view of mine it had stopped, so I’m none the wiser if it were mine or not.

Thank you - I hope that works, must remember to tell Adrian
