Hi all. Is this black box the alarm sounder? It’s in the boot LHS. Is it easy to disconnect?

Does the car have parking sensors in the rear bumper?

If so that is the usual place to put their control unit and sounder. The bunch of wires looks like it might be for one.

The alarm is going off randomly, without the hazards flashing, and it appears to be coming from this area. It has been suggested to disconnect the sounder. I guess it might be easier to just lock the car with the key for now.

Can I ask: Do these cars actually have an alarm siren? My alarm is completely silent and I’m not at all sure if it has its own siren or beeps the horn.

To be honest, it may not be the alarm siren that’s going off. It does actually sound like the reversing sound. However, locking the car using the key rather than remote stops it happening. This is why I assumed it was alarm.

I noticed water in that picture (by the loose push-pull-stud). Not a good sign.

Some off-the-wall ideas, and probably (hopefully) completely wrong:
If water is getting into the connections or looms to the reversing sensor control box that might set it off.
Does the reversing light have a dim glow when beeper is complaining?
Is the reverse switch on the gearbox truly turning off-off? (The sensor box should only be powered when in reverse.)
Is the main battery running down a bit quick?

Hi. The picture is an old one I happened to have. I used it as it shows the box I was interested in. There is no water anywhere now. At the time it was leaking around the rear light casing and tracking back to that area. Main battery is fine. It was new in February and no issues with it running down. I couldn’t see any glow from the reversing light. Because the car is on a nose down slope, I usually leave it in reverse gear. But I have done this for two years with no problem.

UK spec NC has an alarm siren.
