I got my the wheel alignment done on mx5 but im not sure if its been done right! It was a freebie as my mate runs the garage but nothing seems to have been done to the back wheels. Before I give him some stick just want to double check as i’ve not seen an alignment print out before!
G’day kevin. I may be missing something, but all I see is 1 set of figures for the front and 1 set for the back. I can’t work out whether the figure is for camber or toe, …I’m totally confused. There should be figures for Toe, castor and camber for the fronts and toe and camber for the rears. How long did he take to do the measurement/adjustment?
That’s not a full alignment, its merely toe setting. The MX-5 needs a full alignment and it looks like your friend does not have the equipment to do that, whatever he may be telling you.
It only took about 10 mins to do. I wasnt
expecting it be a full alignment (like the one wheels in motion do)
just a basic one. What worrys me is he did say it was a four wheel alignment (they did
put sensors on all four wheels) but I can see that the front wheels are
different from before and after but the back wheels are the same.
They didnt do camber, the system (cost 8k
apparantly) said it was nearly spot on and they are qualified to do
that yet. Im not sure about the others.
I’ve got no handling problems but thought I’d get it done for free while doing mot. I know these cars need a
full alignment but as long as it isnt aligned incorrectly that will
cause damage to car/tyres then im not to fussed.
Sorry - posted this after you had replied to the earlier posts[;)]
To get the wheel alignment and steering geometry done properly, the car will have to go somewhere they have the proper machine, such as a Hunter. This will allow the toe, camber and castor to be measured and adjusted. Only specialist places have this kind of kit. The recognized expert is WIM but seeing as you are Up Norf, please have a look at the Nigel Lang thread.
I’ll have a look at his thread, cheers! I just wanted to make sure the basic alignment that was done was okay and wont cause any damage/tyre wear etc and the back wheels havent been done, I think!
