"AlloyGator" Wheel Rim Protection.

Hi Forummers,

Has anybody got/had any experience of “AlloyGator” alloy wheel rim protectors? I am considering using these to protect my beautiful wheels from accidental kerbing. I expect I will be told not to kerb my wheels in the first place but unless you drive like a pussy or drive on the white line all the time, in all possibility it will happen at some point, especially on the narrow lanes around here, with tourists driving down the middle of the road in their massive 4X4’s .

Cheers.

They look horrible!

Maybe, but kerbed alloys probably look worse!

It may depend on what colour you get.

Hi I have used them for a couple of years and found them very effective,ok my ones are bling but they are available in lots of colours, they are more economical than buying new wheels . May be not for the traditoinalist but thats not me

Thanks. What colour did you use?

Bright yellow to match hard top ,spoilers and stripes on gold and polished rim bbs reps he he!!!

Hiya, I had a set of red ones on my alloy lips fitted to the BBS repss on my mk1. Not sure of brand but they stuck onto the rims very well. Only issue I had, the silicon rubber or whatever they’re made of, discoloured pretty easily and were difficult to clean properly. Getting the joint right was also a bit of a faff. Cut them exactly to size when fitting and one shrank back a bit, leaving a small gap. Cut them slightly oversize to accommodate that and one stayed oversize, causing a slight bulge!  They did do the job though on slight kerbing situations, anything more and they can peel off exposing the rim to scratching. TBH, I would have another set, as correctly fitted and maintained, I quite like the look.

I’m wondering if I should get some orange ones for my 30AE as the cost of it’s wheels will  be  if in fact there will be spares immediately available.

Digressing I know, but have you got your 30AE now?

Not yet! It’s at the dealers, accessories fitted and was due to collect today but due to a domestic problem it’ll have to be tomorrow now!  I’ll post the confirmation on the " Who is getting a 30AE" thread!

I certainly would. I would not want to kerb those wheels. I think I will be getting some Graphite ones for my car.

I have a suspicion that they may not be suitable for wheels with a lip on the rim as on the RAYS wheels on the 30AE. Even if they do fit the would probably partly obscure the 30AE script on the rims.

Thanks Paul I think your observation is spot on!  I’ll forget about them!

I had the AlloyGators fitted to my ND2 yesterday. On the face of it they looked great but due to the rim shape they do not seat very well (standard ND2 wheels). I returned my car this morning and they have agreed to remove them and I will get a refund. There was a 3mm gap between the rim and the protector which should be 1mm max and the back of the joining pieces which should normally be hidden by the tyre was clearly visible. Great shame really because the product is good and it looked good from a distance.
