hi everyone can anyone tell me if my car aerial is amplified,it had the standard radio in it until now,or can you tell me how to tell if my aerial is or is not amplified, trying to upgrade to DAB with an aerial spliter!!. thanks Steve [car mx5 mk3 2006]
Yes, the aerial base has an amplifier built into it. It’s powered via Blue wire from the back of the audio unit (looking at the car in your avatar, I’m assuming non-BOSE)
hi Robbie thanks for the reply, does that mean i cannot use an aerial splitter for my DAB radio and will i just have to buy a dab aerial and leave my fm radio in the back of my radio, ie use two aerials, hope that makes sense. thanks Steve
I can’t answer that, I’m not up on DAB.
It’s very likely that the aerial amp won’t pass the DAB signal so you will either need a second aerial for DAB or else upgrade the Mazda aerial amplifier.
I just checked EBay and there are some aerial + amplifier solutions for AM + FM + DAB which could replace the MX5 aerial if there is enough space.
