As you may or may not know, Andrew and I will be tying the knot late next year. We were originally going to be getting married in Scotland, but after both my sister and mother folded their arms and refused to travel that far to share in what will be one of the happiest days of my life, and because Andrew unfortunately is an orphan, we’ll be getting hitched in the US, on the 18th November next year
Finer details are yet to be sorted as we’re currently trying to decide between getting married on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Fran or in Vegas. Or…at the bottom of the Grand Canyon/a helicopter above it!
Which brings me to my invite. I’ve known many of you for several years now and we’d love it if you could join us either on our happy day, or at least drop in at some point during the honeymoon period. We’ll be in the US from around 14th November right up until 28th, just after Thanksgiving. At present we’re most likely to be in SF from 14th - 16th or 17th, then in Vegas for the big day on the 18th, a few days in Vegas post wedding then we’re flying over to the other side of the US to spend a week in NYC and the surrounding area. If we end up being married in SF, then we’ll be there until the 19th when we’ll be travelling over to Vegas to spend a couple of days there and then to NYC. We will, of course, keep anyone who is genuinely interested in attending as up to date as we can. As I don’t tend to use these forums much at all, I’d prefer it if you email me. kdixon1978 @ gmail.com
We will be up for the Vegas bit, of course, but not too sure about SF as it is dependent on Andy’s leave.
We did New York a few weeks ago, very nice, very cold and very expensive now the exchange rate is so bad, so will not be doing that again in a hurry!
Be nice to see a few of our ER friends in Vegas! Hotel Bavers will be open for business, although I think honeymooners may have to stay down the strip! Can recommend the Lake view rooms in the Bellagio!
We’re getting married in SF. Don’t know where as yet, but that’s Andrew’s preferred location, so that’s where we’ll be going!
Draft itinerary is as follows:
Fly out to SF on 13th/14th or 15th Nov (depends on price). Mon 16th we’ll be tied up all day, then Tue 17th will be a flappy panicky day, or a relaxing day depending on how we’re feeling! Wedding day 18th Nov then we’re going to travel across to Vegas by rented car on Thur 19th or Fri 20th and stay probably until Mon 23rd. Then we’re flying to NY until Sun 29th or Mon 30th.
From Lou’s advice, we’re probably going to rent a room in one of the hotel/casino restaurants for a buffet or meal, depending on how many people are going to join us. There probably won’t be any sort of a ‘do’ after the actual wedding, but we’re likely to go somewhere for a meal.
I appreciate that many of you won’t have any sort of a clue if you’re able to come along or not to either location, but I just wanted to update you all, then let you make your choices later in the year. I do hope to see some of you there [:)]
If you have time, try to factor in a day to drive down US1, this runs down the coast from Santa Cruz to Santa Barbara. Talk to Lou and I think she will recommend it-------------------------
any one of the places you mention kendre, would be a great location for your wedding, but having been to them all, i rather fancy the grand canyon, havent heard of weddings down that one before, "good luck to you both wherever it happens,
ps grand canyon = you could literally say, we started married life in a hole, it can only get better from here on, [;)]
We drove the entire coast from the Astoria Bridge in Oregon down to Santa Barbara. We did SF to SB in 2 days and felt it was a bit rushed, its then about a 5 hour journey inland from SB to Vegas.
We are going to go back, hopefully in May, with the Miata and drive the Carmel/Monteray bit again. There are some cool twisties up through the mountain passes which is the quickest way up from Vegas to start on that part of the Highway 1, However, they are closed Nov - May due to the snow!
Just wanted to bump this thread up and remind you that it’s a little over six months away now.
We’ve booked our flights, we’re flying out to SF on Saturday 14th November, wedding day remains 18th November and the location is still TBA (!) but it’s highly likely to be the Bay area, quite possibly on a boat (awaiting quotes coming back). If it all goes t*ts up, then we’ll book City Hall and have a quickie wedding there. Whatever happens, we’re going out there and we’re getting married on the 18th [;)]
The plan is still to drive to Vegas on the 19th (Thursday), then we’re flying from Vegas to NY on Monday 23rd, flying home on Saturday 28th. I’ve yet to book hotels but that can be last minute, not a problem.
